AUX not showing! tried everything!
Hi guys,
I'm pretty much desperate with my AUX cable, since i've tried almost everything to hook it up and it doesn't show in the radio's interface!
The car is a model 2006 with the cd radio and cd changer (HK audio).
I've ordered a simple BMW AUX cable that should plug in the back, but it doesn't work.
I've tried the empty port (with and without the cd changer connected) and i've also tried the cd changer port, it responds to nothing!
For the people that are interested in the wiring, the AUX plug is connected to pin 3,4 and 10.
From what i've read, this should be correct right?
I can only switch to the following menu's:
FM - NO DISC - NO DISCS
Can someone help me out?
Thanks,
Otto

First...you let it power down right...if I recall it took a cycle or two when I plugged in a satalite radio....the radio added that to the list automatically when I pushed the mode button...
Any chance a prior owner swapped out the radio?
They get their buttons stuck from drinks splashing on them....
There were 3 different radio's that looked the same if I recall...but the earliest one did not have mp3 or aux capabilities....
Can you read a mp3 disc in the CD player? that might be the fast way to check it...next way I'd to look at the volume ****...the external way to tell which way is too look at the ****...it changed in size and shape with each radio revision....might take some searches, but that info has been posted before...which **** is which radio.

Thanks for the replies guys!
Sorry for not answering, was really busy last days.
When i plug my phone in and put on a song, it still does nothing, no sign of something!
I have the CD radio with round *****, so round MODE ****, round FM tune *****.
The CD changer plug is plugged, but haven't tested it out yet, it does show up on the interface.
I've plugged the AUX in multiple ways, but no success, it just doesn't recognize it.
I think i must try the method with the resistors..
Thanks,
Otto

On outmotoring.com description of the aux port it says it will not work with the CD changer. Are you disconnecting the cd changer? ....
I'd disconnect it and power up the radio to verify the radio sees it gone
then power down and try the aux . . .

hey DutchMini,
Not trying to down talk anyone here but have you tried hitting the Mode button on the radio? I have a 2003 R53 with the stock unit. I dropped in a cheap aux cable that I could plug into my ipod and I couldn't get it to come up like you. I read somewhere on one of these forums to press the Mode button 3 times until it displayed AUX on the screen. My issue was that simple. Not sure if this helps but just figured I offered my experience with it.

It wouldn't hurt to try, but I believe that is incorrect information. The aux and CD changer ports operate independently. Owners have been using aux input along with iPod adapters plugged into the CD changer port.

YOU MUST UNPLUG the CD changer....
I ran into this basic issue ...I had a satalite radio (Xm) with a blitz-safe adaptor through the CD changer plug....
All the info said I had to unplug it to make the line-in jack work....

I've used the CD port both with the OEM CD changer as well as an aftermarket system (Intravee) and aux still shows up.
Maybe a firmware glitch?

GUYS, IT'S FIXED!
thank you so much, Jamesk, you made a great mod!
Here's how it goes:
Left aux cable: 0,22 uf capacitor in line to radio unit.
Right aux cable: 0,22 uf capacitor in line to radio unit.
Between the 2 capacitors and head unit, bridge the 2 wires with a 300k ohm resistor, i used 2x 150k ohm.
Ground wire remains the same.
So happy!
Music is crisp and clear.
Just need to find a way to clear the wirey mess 😜
Thanks for all your help guys!

Yes, i thought of that as well, however i've read that the people that did the resistor mod with success, had the same type of radio i have..
The other version with square ***** seems to be more 'supporting' when it comes to AUX.
Also, my CD changer still works, so no need to unplug or switch one or another!
