Is a stereo just begging to be stolen?
I'm tempted to install an aftermarket stereo in my r53 for features like proper iPod compatibility, bluetooth, and or aux in. (I have the stock with the primitive iPod adapter).
But it's been my experience that aftermarket stereos get stolen, regardless of how good or bad they are. Factory stereos don't.
I lived in a very high break in area in college and most of my friends cars were broken into. My car of the time survived unmolested until I move to a much safer place after college.
Any thoughts on stereos attracting criminals?

An aftermarket head unit isn't completely without risk, but these days thieves usually break into a car not for the stereo, but hoping to find other things. Headunits are no longer an attractive target because of low demand.
The other option is to upgrade your iPod adapter: http://www.ecstuning.com/News/MINI_C...008/ES2226071/
