Aux input not showing up

Hi All,

Need a bit of help trouble shooting an Aux input issue

So, I bought the Aux input cable that was being advertised by ECSTuning.com on the homepage earlier this week. LINK: http://www.ecstuning.com/Search/Site...nput/ES194874/

I pull out the stereo and installed the cable into the back of the radio unit. Put everything back in place and then started the car.

Issue at hand though is that AUX does not show up as a MODE on the HUD. I can only choose from CD and Radio bans.

Am I suppoe to do a hard reset on the radio or something. I can't get the AUX option to show up at all.

HELP!!! please :-)

Thanks,
Roger

I looked at your link, it shows -

Toggle through the "mode" button once installed till you see the Aux wording come up on the screen.

Looks like it should be plug and play. Have you tried calling ECS?

Tried toggling a number of times. it keep rotating between the radio and CD.

Haven't tried calling ECS yet. Hoping to avoid it but looks like it might be needed.

You need to plug in an MP3 player that is not charging for this test.

Tried this as well. I plugged in my android phone and tried playing some of the music i have on the the SD card. the phone said it was playing but nothing from the radio. I kept hitting mode but AUX just never showed up.

It might just be a bad cable I got from ECS Tuning. Refund request, ahoy.

Take some time to triple check your wiring, wire by wire. Often the solution becomes clear. Also check the manufacturing date of the radio.

Yup, It's suppose to be a pretty straight forward plug and play. However, with that, I pulled it out and tried re-installing 3-5 times before giving up. I did everything from pulling out the radio harness and clipping it into the harness then pluggin in the harness into the back of the radio unit. Did a installwitht he wireing going straight into the harness which was already plugged into the radio unit. I even went as far as completely disconnecting the radio unit from the dash and slowly put everything back together.

After all of that radio works great, CD player works great, but no AUX input available when toggling through the MODE's.

THe radio is the stand CD player in a 2005 R53 (CooperS) so it should be able to support the aux input cable.

At this point i'm convinced it's justa a faulty cable. That or, for some odd reason, the radio unit connecting pin specific to the Aux input are faulty.

Thanks so much for the help JoyLove

I just bought an '08 S convertible. It came with an AUX input in the glove box. I've connected my iPhone and tried everything, but the AUX willnot come up as an option when I hit mode, same as above. Anyone have any suggestions?
I'm having a hard time figuring out this radio. As in, what some of the buttons mean.
I've got the HK unit w/o nav.

Please folks if you are having aux in trouble, can you state if you tried without a charger connected? It's the first question you'll be asked. Thanks.

Sorry, I figured it was obvious that no charger was connected. I've read about the ground loop noise isolator and figured that's unnecessary since I haven't even tried connecting to a charger yet.
Radio Mode only sees radio and CD. I've tried everything short of pulling the head unit out to make sure the connection is tight. My AUX is the genuine MINI part, not a retrofit.

So, without charging, I still need the GLN isolator?

No I mean to pull out the radio. Some people fit densions or BMW ipod ETC and disconnect the aux in.

Gotcha. Thanks, joylove. I've learned a lot from your posts while researching my one problem! Thanks to you, I'll probably be disassembling my MINI soon.

(the buttons are explained, but it doesn't mention aux input because it's an old manual from 2001).

No, not necessary. In fact, if aux mode is working, it will appear in the mode even if nothing is plugged in to the jack.

not sure if you figured this out but I just did the "home-made" version of the aux install this weekend and it works fine.

For me: Prior to install, I had no 'aux' available when pressing MODE.
After install, with phone plugged in, the 'aux' is available and plays fine. I forgot about the power cable once and as soon as I plugged in the power cable it cut the sound from the aux. I quickly realized what happened.

Just thought i'd share.

good luck.

sorry - should have stated it's and 06 R52 with H/K stereo.

Should pop up Aux on the display. Make sure it's installed correctly, most of the time it's not installed all the way and when you toggle through it will not show up.

Note:

*Does not work with early 2002 MINIs. 9/2002 production date and up.
Takes place of the CD changer socket, so if you have CD changer installed, it will need disconnected.
Does not work with cassette deck stereo.

All install info here, you can install it in two popular locations. post #228

Did anyone find a solution to this? I tried to hook mine up and made sure it was plugged in correctly but I cannot get it to show AUX at all. Just radio or CD options.

Sorry for bringing this back from the dead but I can't stand my radio stations here.

What year do you have? Did you plug in something to test it would come up and work?

I just installed an Aux input 2 days ago.

You definitely have to make sure its seated fully, it doesn't offer positive engagement. Make sure the retaining clip pops into place. When I first used the mode button to select aux, I made sure I had something plugged in playing music. Everything worked on the first try. Super pleased.

Sure your build date is correct and plug was fully seated into the back of the HU?

I have an '06 R52-S and I installed the AUX cable this weekend. I can't even begin to tell you why but mine only worked if I had a noise filter plugged in.
Without it the AUX option wouldn't show up. As soon as I plugged it in, even without having any other device attached the AUX showed up.

Specifically this one: https://www.crutchfield.com/S-GM4LLN...se-Filter.html

Someone with more knowledge of car audio equipment/electronics/voodoo might be able to explain why this would be the case. But as for me I'm just happy I have static free satellite radio again.

Hi has anyone find a solution for this? I have an R56 2010. changed the input, not working. Bought a used/repaired radio on ebay and everything works except the AUX in. tried wiring straight from the back radio connector straight to the new wire and still not working. Thanks !!!!!!!!

PS: Tried connecting my Iphone and PC into the aux. none of them worked.
