Aux in & ground loop isolator

Hi folks,

Just had aux in line installed in 2003 Mini Cooper. The Aux cuts out when iPod is in charger connected to cigarette lighter. From looking at other threads it seems as though installing a ground loop isolator is the answer, so I'm game for that. But I'm wondering whether this is a pretty sure-fire fix and why this is a problem. Please enlighten me.

It fixed it for me. No more problems.

I also have an '03 with AUX but do not have that problem. Static on AM when the charger is on yes. But cutting out, no and I have been running this setup for over 4 years now with many different iPods.
