I have searched high and low on this forum for this answer and I am coming up short so please don't tell me to search. Yes, there are posts, but none actually give a definitive answer.
I have a 2009 Cooper S without the navigation system and it is NOT the harmon kardon system. Basically my stereo is as stock as it gets (other than the bluetooth and ipod upgrade). Is there any way to turn off the automatic speed volume control (s-vol)? I am able to turn it down to a setting of 1, but there is not an off or a 0 option. I didn't know if someone knew of some special setting to completely disable it.
Thanks in advance to everyone. This forum is by far the best mini forum out there.
I doubt that there is any way to disable it. This is an integrated computer function that would probably be very difficult if not impossible to change. At 1 where it's hardly noticeable, it may not be worth the effort.
Not sure on the 09's but on my 08 there is a 0(zero) which is off.

it isn't really noticable without a sub, but once a sub is put in place, then the bass response drops significantly under 25mph. there is also a pretty big boost at 45mph.
We can speculate...but I wouldn't mind having a technician giving us a definitive "no". are there any techs out there that know the stereo in and out that want to weigh in here?
now your sub.... where did you tap into for the bass? I have a tiny sub, which may make it unnoticeable, but I've got my s-volume at like 3 and I dont notice much change on my 09\
as far as stopping it completely, i saw on some bimmer forums there was a specific wire to cut. Have not heard of one for the Mini, but I dont think it has been disabled yet by anyone

Unfortunately this is done in the head unit so there is no wire to cut on the MINI as there is on some of the BMW models.

Now i am not trying to nock teh techs here but most of the m have little to no experience with electronics especially when all they do is hook up a computer to the car and it tells them what to replace. I know the dealer i go to has called on me to answer a few questions that there techs could not figure out on the stereo system of the Gen 2 MINI's.
As to why MINI would have changed the way it works. Well the answer to that is "Because They Can". It seems the only logical explanation.
I really hate to see what happens when mine goes in next week for routine yearly checkup. I am thinking of telling them that they Can Not and Will Not make any software changes.
I do not have the procedure to get into the radio service section with me here but I will try to find it and post it so that you can check that to make sure they did not put a turn off in there somewhere.
