Question after changing head unit

I had the oem headunit (phillips) removed and had a pioneer one installed. Everything works perfectly fine but i noted that when you turn the parks on, the speedo/tachometre & centre console lights up, but excluding the the A/C middle section (i have the A/C middle section with the big digital circle in the middle) only once the key is in the ignition and is turned on, then it illuminates. IS this normal?

also, the buttons behind the steering wheel, do they become dummies once the original headunit is removed? mine no longer works.

You would need this http://www.pac-audio.com/productDeta...&CategoryID=29 if your unit is set up for it.
