Keeping stock HU, adding aftermarket power amp..

I have 2005 MCS convertible, with Combo #1, premium package with HarmanKardon Sound system.

I want to keep the stock HU, but add an aftermarket amp. I want to retain steering wheel control, and clean (unattractive) look.

Questions...

1. Do you know if my HU is amplifying the speakers directly, or if there's an external amp behind the dash? how would I find out?

2. If I do have an external amp, then there must be a line-level pre outs coming out of the stock HU. True? then how would I tap it?

this thread might have been helpful, but pictures are missing I think.

3. What is the size of rear speakers? Some says 6.5, some says 6x9. The hole has a grill that looks like 6.5" but just want to confirm before tearing everything down.

Thank you.

I don't have an HK system, but I am sure you could find proper answers above.
