"Non-compatible" phones damage the system?

Mini service is telling me that if I sync a phone which is not on their approved list that it could cause thousands of dollars worth of damage to the system. Well, the gal who sold me my car hooked up my Nokia N75 and it worked fine... until I pressed some sort of button and now the sound won't play through the speaker system. I've since come to realize that this is some sort of dysfunction with my phone and not my car....but I'm nervous to continue using it. Has anyone heard of a "non-compatible" phone wrecking the telecom system?

cheers!!

Read thru the Sticky "Bluetooth Compatibility List" here

http://www.northamericanmotoring.com...lity-list.html

This will show you how many Un-authroized phones work and work well with the Mini Bluetooth. Also in any post by nicknbecks you will find a link in the signature to the unofficial list of phones that work and their limitations.

There was one phone that at one time with a very specific firmware revision would fill up the memory in the in the Mini Bluetooth Module and then it would not work properly but i do not believe that problem exists anymore with that phone. The next firmware revision for the phone fixed the problem if my memory serves me correctly.

The one that you're thinking of might be the Treo 700wx, I had it (mistakenly) listed as corrupting the Bluetooth module, and three or four people have since come back to say that it they've used it for months without any issue.

The Treo 755p is still a potential problem (T-Mobile never released a firmware update, and Sprint and Verizon's only updates were both out at the time the problem was discovered).

The only other phone to have problems like this is the Sony Ericsson K850i. I haven't seen any people reporting updates with it either, although there have been two firmware updates released since it was reported as having a problem.

As far as I have seen, all reports of these two phones have been from corrupted Bluetooth modules. All the others so far seem to be safe, although many don't actually work.

@Carrie27: Your post is the first one I've seen on the N75, but the Sony Ericsson M600's built off of the operating system that the N75 uses and it works correctly for everything. Also, given that Nokia phones have a good track record with MINIs, I'd bet you won't have any problems. Nobody can make any guarantees, but If it were me, I wouldn't worry about using it.
