I got the snap in adapter for my my brand new mini JCW 2010 yesterday.
I hooked up my Iphone 3Gs but all the thing does is charge the battery?
I need help! Tell me it works with 3Gs!
DO I have to go therough the system settings?

Did you pair your iPhone with the MINI (via Bluetooth)?

My snap-in adaptor quit playing music on my iPhone 3G a couple of weeks ago. I took it out and reinstalled it (several times) etc. I thin started using the Y-cable and it worked fine, ...until it too stopped playing music...except sometimes (!) I'm wondering if it's related to the recent iPhone sw update v. 4.xxxx Is anyone else having similar problems and have you tried backward-updating your iphone to 3.xxxx to see if it solves the problem?
Thanks!

It was previously paired. Should I un-pair re-pair?
Bluetooth paring is between specific devices. The iPhone has to be paired with your MINI. Whether or not it is or has been paired with something else -- now or previously -- is irrelevant. My iPhone is paired with two devices. A Jawbone headset and my JCW.

The phone is paired with my JCW. I can place calls and it all works fine.
The issue is that I can't get top my music and play on the entertainment system (through the car speakers)

It sounds like you may not have purchased the right package when you ordered your MINI that enables the music integration. I thought I had ordered the correct package on my wife's clubman but I didn't. If you look through the phone compatibility thread I think you'll find the information on which package needed to ordered. You can then check your order slip for confirmation but I think that is probably what is going on.

Did you just order the Bluetooth integration (6NE, I think), or did you also order the Smartphone Prep (6NF, I think). The former lets you pair, for hands free calling, and charges. The latter is required to use it as an iPod from the snap-in adapter. You also need the correct snap-in adapter. There are different ones for with and without Smartphone Prep. Even if you do have the Smartphone Prep, you might still have the wrong adapter (dealers are known to get it wrong).

My guess is that SimpsonGI is correct and you neglected to order Smartphone Prep for your car ($100 add on). It is separate and required in addition to ordering the Bluetooth Comfort package with the armrest for the snap-in. Unfortunately I don't believe that it is something that you can add on at the dealer after manufacture.
If you DID somehow order Smartphone prep and it is still not working the one suggestion I have is to take the cradle out and snap it back in again...I've found that it can be fussy if not snapped in well. I very much doubt that to be the cause however if you say that it is charging. Sorry.
EDIT TO ADD: Or as just said by the poster above...it could be the wrong cradle if you DO have Smartphone Prep. That has especially been a problem with the iPhones...there are about 4-6 different cradles it seems.
This is what I got from the dealer...
"We’re not sure where you got the information that the arm-rest hook-up would provide signal to the radio, but it was only designed to power the iPhone. For the USB audio integration, you do require the y-cable and will need to plug the iPhone in under the dash..."
Was I dreaming or did some people connect their Iphone or other phones and could listen to their tunes with the slide in adapter!
But the package has 3G on it not 3Gs!!
Can one of you guys film yourselves using the snap in adapter and listening to music with it so I can show the dealership?
?
I didn't order the car because it's the WC 50. I think it comes with 6NE which is the Comfort Bluetooth with USB/iPod.

Can’t help you with a video…but I can assure you that iPhone music integration through the radio using the snap-in works and works flawlessly. The issue is that you absolutely must have ordered the Smartphone prep.
I’m not surprised that your SA doesn’t know anything about the system…neither did mine. I almost made the mistake of ordering the wrong thing and changed my car order after reading this thread here on NAM.
My guess is that if no one (i.e. your SA) was helping you order the right equipment when you placed your car order…you didn’t order Smartphone prep. As far as I know there is nothing you can do unfortunately about that now. Without it…the cradle is just an armrest charger. Sorry.
I didn't order the car because it's the WC 50. I think it comes with 6NE which is the Comfort Bluetooth with USB/iPod.
Then you don't have Smartphone prep and it won't ever work. 6NE is Comfort Bluetooth WITHOUT Smartphone integration.
You needed 6NF which is Comfort Bluetooth WITH Smartphone integration and costs $100 more...unfortunate if they wouldn't let you upgrade that in a WC50 (or perhaps even surprising that they would have left out such an inexpensive and yet highly functional option on such an expensive car).
As to the cradle requirements check out this table.

I have 6NE. That gives you bluetooth integration for hands free calling, and charging using the snap-in adapter. To get iPod integration from the cradle, you must have 6NF (Smartphone Prep) in addition to 6NE. 6NF is not automatic with 6NE. I learned that the hard way. If the car doesn't have 6NF then the dealer is correct and your experience matches your installed options. Furthermore, 6NF cannot be retrofitted after the fact, at least MINI USA doesn't provide the capability to do so.

It is not just a software update. the ULF Module that handles Bluetooth and USB is different from 6NE to 6NF. This means that the module whould have to be changed and the wiring harness to the armrest would need to be changed inolder cars that did not have the availablility of "Smartphone" when it was built. My understanding is (but i have not been able to confirm it) the wiring harness for cars after "Smartphone" started being available may have the upgraded wiring harness no mater which (6NE or 6NF) was ordered. Cars ordered without either but with an armrest do not have the harness installed.
If you mean upgraded after they purchased, there isn't any as far as we know. At least one person has done this themselves by removing the internals of the armrest and running a USB extension from the center console.
Like RaceTripper said in the post above yours- MINI doesn't offer a retrofit for the Smartphone prep that we know about.
I bought a pre-owned 2008 Mini Cooper S. it has the convenience package and was upgraded to include the center armrest ($500). Since I didn't order the car how would one find out if they have the 6NE or 6NF? Is there a simple way to look at the armrest to determine this?

A MINI dealer should be able to tell you from the VIN.

6NF wasn't available until September of 09, and isn't retrofitable, so 6NE would be the only option. Do you have a USB port? Is there an electrical connector in the arm rest?
I have attached photos of the inside of my armrest with the protective dummie cover removed. Hopefully they'll post on the thread.
To answer the other question, the only USB plug I can find is located in front of the stick shift. If it helps at all I noticed that there are wires running up the left side of the armrest hinge (when facing the rear of the car). There are channels on both the left and right, but only the left has wires.
It appears to have the correct bits for a snap-in adapter, although without the Smart Phone Prep there won't be a connection for music from the armrest. You should get phone charging and the RF loop antenna if there's a snap-in available for your phone.
There's only one USB port possible at the moment, the one that you found would be it. If you have the SmarPhone prep, the USB/Music connection is done through the phone's connector, specific to each phone via the snap-in adapter.
