Garmin Nuvi 760 owners - happy?

Thinking of getting one of these before they're all gone and wondered how people who posted here they bought one are happy with their units?

I just got one of these earlier this week because of the deals being offered. Actually, spending a little more, I picked up the 780 which includes the MSN Direct Receiver.

So far I’m very happy with the unit. That is after only 1 trip though. I’ve not found anything to add that hasn’t already been written up in a review. This is my first stand-alone GPS. I’ve used the GPS on my phone and mapping software on a laptop up till now.

I found this review very helpful: http://www.gpspassion.com/fr/articles.asp?id=251

Even with the good discounts the “other guys” are still cheaper. I think I’d be plenty happy with the TomTom but I followed the crowd with this purchase as most everyone in the MINI club I belong to has a Nuvi.

Back to MINI specific results with the unit:
I’ve got my MINI color combo as the car on the screen, it boots up with a MINI logo, and I’ve loaded all of the MINI dealerships as POIs. I’ve been struggling with where to mount the thing however. I like the screen size because I wanted to put it low and away. There isn’t really any place to stick the suction cup other then the windshield or the speedo. The speedo worked just OK but it fell off too many times. I almost went with the Kuda mount but wasn’t real happy with the exact placement. For now I’ve ordered a ProClip.

Like having the Yellow Pages....

...on your dash.

On a 2500 mile trip, I planned in a bunch of POI's and 5 routes including 2 off of Google Maps.

I got the MSN afterwords, mine came with the other traffic system which is better than nothing, but MSN is much better.

Check prices on line and write down the best prices web address, they when you shop if the price is higher, have the store go to the website and they will usually match the price, Best Buy did and it saved me about a $100.

I am extremely happy with the quality and functionality of my Garmin nuvi 760 and I use it all the time

I even added the Kuda mount to the dash which puts it close to eye level and easy to use the touch screen functions.

Pics in my gallery.

www.tigergps.com usually has the best prices. And good service. $399.99 for a 760 as of this post.

I missed the frenzy when Costco and Best Buy had them for $349 and I got that coupon for $50 off from this board for BB - now for the first time since I've been watching electronics the price actually went back up instead of down.

I found this place online but don't know anything about them. What sites will Best Buy match?

I absolutely love my nuvi 760. Will have to get the Kuda mount once I pick up my MINI. The way I see it, my $370 760 replaces $2,500 worth of options (Nav, iPod connector, and Bluetooth).

Currently available at Amazon for $370....

Ive been following this unit and it continues to drop in price...GPS units only seem to get better and cheaper so I dont feel rushed to get one. There are many websites that review GPS units. One not mentioned yet in this thread is

FWIT- I just bought a Nuvi 680 at Costco for $349. They also had the Nuvi 760 for the same price. I compared the two and they seem nearly identical with respect to features. I chose the 680 because it offered 12 months MSN free, plus it included the MSN receiver and it appears the receiver is optional on the 760, though the description is a bit vague. In an attempt to clarify, the 680's MSN receiver is built into the 12V car charger/adaptor.

DONT BUY FROM TECHONDIGITAL.COM. They have scammed many people with their advertised low prices and deceptive business practices. Just google their company and then check them on the BetterBusinessBureau online website. They operate under many different online names and advertise unusually low prices. They have been known to sell counterfeit products. READ their complete online purchase policy.... they will charge 20% to your card if you try to cancel an order with them. How do I know all this???? I fell for it.... But I was one up on them, I called the credit card company and canceled my card so they had a useless credit card number...LOL!

Thanks for the link. Just read through the complaints. I'll check out buydig. I was hoping to get it for $300 but that deal with free shipping works too.

had my 760, w/the latest maps download, for a few month and two vacation trips. We found the POI inventory very weak , and not upto date, for the places we were looking for. My other few issues are common to most portables. Would I buy it again? 'you bet ya' ajm

If you're looking for things to feed your GPS, wander over to:

http://www.poi-factory.com/

Check out the Garmin boards as well as the POI stuff. They are a great community, very supportive.

Not only POI files, but different vehicles for the display (such as a few Minis, but I like the yellow submarine), and hints/tools for altering the text to speech. Rather than saying "Recalculating" my 660 says "Have it your way."

Give them a visit!
