Playlists in USB/Aux Y Cable

Hello everyone, I am new around here and have searched everywhere in the forum for an answer to my question but I can not find it anywhere.

Anyway, I own a Mini (duh) that came with USB/aux Y Cable and Bluetooth installed. I do not have NAV.

My actual question is how can I make playlists in my ipod (5th gen, 80GB), that the MINI can read? I am getting quite tired of moving around the name of my artist.

So if anyone could help me make a playlist that my MINI can read I would really apreciate it.

Thanls in advance.

The playlist takes on the sort you were using in iTunes when you created it. So, create a playlist and select the column you wish to sort by. Then drag the tracks you want into it from your all "Music" playlist. If you select the left-most column in the playlist, you can drag tracks up and down to make a custom order.

You are going to think of me as very stupid but I did not understand your post.

I know how to make an iPod playlist in iTunes, what i do not know is how to make the MINI able to read it.

For example, I just made a playlist titled "Trial" in it I put music from de ipod (let's say 25 rock songs). I eject the iPod but when I connect it to the MINI the "LIST" button will display "Empty" when I touch it.

When the iPod is not connected to your mini, can you see the playlist in the main menu of your iPod?

If not, you need to drag your playlist from your library to your iPod. You will then see them option on your menu for artist or playlist on the mini when the iPod is connected.

I can see my playlist on the iPod, yes. However when I connect the iPod to the MINI the plasylist won't show. I have no idea why the playlist won't show, I even made short in case the MINI had trouble reading the info but no, the playlist does not appear.

Any ideas for why I am having this problem or what am I doing wrong?

Thank you.

I have been thinking... Could the problem be caused because my iPod is in Hard Disk option? Maybe using it like a normal iPod would eliminate the problem. What do you think?

Just a few questions.
1. When you plug the iPod is does teh radio screen show iPod for the USB connection?
2. If it does then there should be a List button on the screen back in play mode and it should show you the list. Does it?
3. Are you transfering the play lists to the iPod with iTunes or another program.

1.- I have iPod Video, so 5th Gen (I think).

2.- Erm... I do not know how to check their format. I just know that I made them in iTunes with the "New Reproduction List" option.

Thank you for your time.

Sorry another question. "New Reproduction List" option can you tel me where that is i do not seem to find it in my version of iTunes (latest windows version).

Have you tried to make a play list with out this option on.

I have tried 4 different iPods in my car and all work just fine. But i will way though that all of them are connected to windows PC's and playlists are made by dragging songs into a newly name playlist.

Weird, playlists just show up in mine, under the list button. In the 08 they even managed to show all the playlists (the 07 only shows the first 64).

Let's just say that I push CTRL + N to make a new reproduction list.

I have the latest version of iTunes for Windows and my iPod was formated in Windows.

I will try a few iPods this weekend and tell you if this works.

Am I doing playlists the way you make them?

Thank you.

Gobbuster, you are not alone. I have this EXACT problem in my '08 MCS which I took delivery of today. I have not yet had the opportunity to try multiple iPods, but my 5th Generation 30GB Ipod Video doesn't display playlists in just the manner you have described.

Any help here folks?

It might be mean, but it feels so good to have someone to share the pain with

My GF's ipod (iPod Nano with Video)is not compatible with my car so I will have to wait a few more days to try my friends iPod.

I hope we can find a solution soon.

I'm confused- if you GF has a Nano w/video, it must be 3rd gen, which is supported I've been using mine for a week without a problem.

I JUST got in from trying both my 1st Gen and 3rd Gen Nanos, no luck with playlists on either of them either. What on earth is going on here?!

Okay well this may be stupid of me to ask, but how is everyone connecting their iPod?

I was scanning some BMW forums for this problem, and it seems to also be present on some BMWs. There was mention on those forums and in the OP of an Y-cable, I don't have one of those?

I have been using my normal iPod cable (the white one that comes with the iPod) to connect to the USB port directly. Is this incorrect?

Not stupid at all- you would think that would work, but it doesn't. The Y cable has both USB and aux (3.5 mm) outputs to plug into the two ports in your central pillar. The other end is an iPod connector; in between is a box that translates "iPod" to "MINI." Your dealer should have thrown one in if you got the convenience pkg, though they're not obliged to do so.

Here is a picture of the cable connected. And it MUST be the Mini supplied cable as there have been others that have tried a cable for Kenwood and others that do not work because there is a resistor built into the cable to tell the computer what type of iPod it is. I.E. the USB port has a way of determining what type of software connection to use with the iPod.

I appreciate your efforts, but it looks like the picture post didn't work out? Nothing appears in your post image wise. These forum picture things are a bit tricky....I've never understood why they work half the time.

I didn't get the convenience package, I ordered the Bluetooth/USB option as a stand alone. For $500, I would expect to receive this cable. I've left a message for my MA. I'm not going to be happy if they give me trouble about it.
