Thanks coop for a great post very helpful. I still find the mic to be poor quality maybe it's just my phone service I have a 2011 clubman S and your instruction were right on
I have done this to my clubman s and it helps...a bit. The bigger problem is the fan. On a hot day, you have a choice: turn the fan off and boil, or sound like you're in a wind tunnel.
To test it.... Call yourself and leave yourself a voicemail , and turn the fan from off to full while counting from 1 to 10.
I haven't designed an elegant "wind shield" yet

I'm with you... Moved mine and it only helped a bit. Disappointing, I would love to be able to use this all the time. So annoying when you have the phone plugged in to unplug and change the audio source. Not to mention trying to hold the phone, drive and change gears.

Did this last night. Didn't help. Called my wife, and sounded fine when I wasn't moving. The minute I start moving, she said it sounded like wind tunnel. It's not even that loud inside the car! What gives! It's like the opposite of noise canceling. Awesome a NOISE ENHANCING microphone!
What are the options for replacing the mic with a better one? I saw a BMW thread where they were talking about replacing the mic with an upgraded noise canceling one
I'd LOVE to find a cable that had a female plug that took the male part that plugs into the mic, and goes to 2 male plugs. That way you could use 2 mics, 1 on each side. Anybody know where I could get a extra mic ?? Not sure where I could get a plug to go by, so I could get a female plug, but would love to give this a shot !! Any ideas anyone ?? I'd but a extra mic if anybody knows where to get 1 at a fair price or has 1 for sale. Anyvody know what kind of plue that is on the end of the wire ??

At least two problems i see with this.
1. it would cause worse sound to the person on the other end as the two mics would be picking up the sound at two very slightly different times and thus causing the same sound to be transmitted twice at slightly different times.
2. adding a second mic would change the impedance the ULF module sees from the microphone and thus causing distortion of the sound before it get transmitted. Again making the sound worse than what it already is.
BTW mine works great I have been on the other end of the conversation when the gf is using my car and it sounds as good if not better than when using the phone by itself.
Moving the mic to a different location will affect how it sounds but could also make the clarity worse by affecting the way the mic and amplifier work together before the sound is transmitted back to the phone.
Also of note is that many phones have a separate bluetooth volume and if changed can make the sound quality much better. iPhone are notorious for having this problem as the signal from the mini is sent to the phone and the phone amplifies or reduces the amplification and causes distortion of the sound, thus causing the quality to be greatly reduced.

I changed phones a few days ago, and most of the people I talk to alot say it's 10 times better, so my issue may have been due to a poor phone choice !! Hope so.
