Navigation & Audio Aux Input installed! (pics)

I'm wondering if I can fashion my own Aux. input. I'm certain I can get the 1/8" jack connector from Radio Shack. The connector for the back of the head unit might be a different story. I have the non-HK unit with no NAV, so I'll just have a blank spot there, correct? I wonder if I can pick up a connector from the dealership.

Here is a link that indicates the prescence of a circuit board:

The Aux input is so cheap to buy that most deemed in not necessary to try and duplicate.

more info over at MINI2..http://www.mini2.com/forum/showthrea...+loop+isolator
seems that w/ the homemade version, most folks also put in a ground loop isolator.

Lost Aux!!!!
I have tried to find the answer to this and it must be very simple. I have an '05 MCS with H/K stereo and no nav. I had the AUX input installed at dealership before purchase. All this time when I pushed the MODE button it would scroll through AUX,FM1 etc..... I had a shop put in an XM radio and run it through the AUX input. The shop says it worked great for them. It never has for me. Now when I push the MODE button it goes throught everything, but does not have an "AUX" option!!!!! I did this so I wouldn't have to FM modulate my XM. What happened that the radio will now not have an AUX option??? Please help. I'm sorry if this is a dumb question, but I have spent 1.5 hours pushing buttons and reading owner's manual. Thanks in advance!!!

Doc C, this is a common problem and you probably need to add a ground loop isolator. Enter a forum search on "ground loop isolator" for lots of information.

Sometimes you have to scroll down the page to the section on aux input.

It is so easy that it should just come standard. I put mine in last night and it took a whole ten minutes including drilling the three holes. Works great but has anyone else noticed that the radio doesn't go as loud with the Aux setting?
And for anyone thinking they need pic's just pull your knee board down below the steering wheel, feel right behind the radio on the side closest to the steering wheel. Plug the plug into that space and drop the cord down behind the radio and pull it through by the cup holders. Mount the plug where ever you want and your done. Push the knee board back up, and listen to your music.

The NAV audio uses the existing AUX input socket. However, there are extra pins that can still be used for AUX audio. GreatBear figured it out and posted pics but they are not there anymore. I could disconnect the NAV audio, especially since I can't get the GB voice on my mk3, but it would be nice to have both as an available option.

Also the standard car radio has a aux input adjustment. On the left side of the face, there is a button with a "Note" symbol on it. Pressing that will cycle through the adjustable options available, the last one is Aux (I think). Once there turn the volume **** and that adjust the level either up or down, I think the max is 5.

Depending on what you are plugging into your aux, who should be able to tweak the input volume. The Roady's all have that function in their menu
