in terms of accidents and tickets. Well, one dead rattler that made the mistake of crossing the Interstate. In any case, we metup with 18 intrepid MINIs at CarHenge in Alliance, NE just as planned. The did allow us in for a group pic which we did, attached. Then a nice dinner in Hot Springs, SD then on to Hill City via Mt. Rushmore and Crazy Horse.
Today's plan is early meetup in Hill City, then to Mt. Rushmore for our group pic, then Needles Highway, then Crazy Horse, then dinner in Deadwood at Kevin Costner's place.
A couple of YouTube videos (from the D90) from Day 2 of our adventure. It's been lots of fun, especially driving the Needles Highway, just outside the Mt Rushmore area. Today was Mt Rushmore, Crazy Horse and dinner in Deadwood and lots of twisties in between. The roads are well maintained and fun!
Take a look at a section of the Needles Highway (US-16) on Google Maps. Take a look with the "Street Level" mode too. You can see the bridge -- the street crosses over itself.

Reason: added google map
I want to thank all of you who gave up someone's Graduation Party to join us. We hope it was fun for you as it was for us. Kudos to all attendees. Unlike some other group GTG's, I witnessed:
Not a single parking lot burn-out
Zero tickets (and a conspicuous absence of LEO's)
No body damage whatsoever
No blown tires and wheels
Not a since encounter with a deer or moose, tho they tried
Plenty of patronage at the car wash across the street
Please post your picture links here then watch for our upcoming article in MC2 magazine. See you at the next event.....location TBA.
Jonathan: you were NOT witness to my post-mortem Close Encounter with a fresh SKUNK CARCASS at Devil's Tower
(ha! Get it? CLOSE ENCOUNTER? ... oh, never mind -- )
My new PicasaWeb account pictures WITH the "boot-gallery" of everyone included.
OUTSTANDING week ... thanks to all of you; everyone there made it such a blast -- thirty new friends.

(This last pic in the series is a little mileage milestone I hit on the trip home today. )
Thanks to everyone involved. Just a wonderful, friendly, outgoing, and gracious group of die-hard MINI folk. It was our honor and pleasure to be a part of it.

save for a few thousand alien bug life forms on the front. Here is a pic from this AM with Rick, Wendy, Ron, Glenda and myself at Devil's Tower. Very unusual and impressive. Easily worth the trip.
Francis is checking in... that was a long drive home... after getting detoured, I arrived home at 1am... thats 17 hours door-to-door. I'm tired and will not touch beef jerky for a loooong time I'll sort through my pics when I wake up again. It was really great to see everyone! looking forward to the next run

I'd also like to add my thanks for a terrific and fun weekend, even tho we weren't able to hook up on a lot of the drives due to "scheduling conflicts" (my wife works nights, it's impossible for her to get out the door before about 11 am) we had a ton o fun touring the areas and running into improptu MINI references ....... like when we were heading home and the lady at the Badlands kiosk asked if there were an event somewhere as we were about the 5th one of those little cars to come thru her gate that morning! Also, we arrived at Devil's Tower just as the early group were gathering up to go, as did a good sized contingent of Mustangs. Quote of the day by one of the Mustang group's passenger............"Oh, we can park here, the little cars are leaving"!
Speaking of impropmtu MINI sightings, we got within one car of St. Louis Lo on the way out of the Badlands, but I don't think they saw us, hope they had an uneventful trip home.
We made it home to KC by about midnite, not bad for a 10:30 departure and a side trip to the Badlands, and this morning I "rescued" the MINI-Poopers from Pete and Mac's Spa and resort, they appear tanned and well rested!
I'll post a few pics later today after I get them uploaded out of the camera.
Thanks again, and I enjoyed meeting all of you!

And in the coming months, look for more from the High Plains Motoring Society (H-PMS) since we will choose and then announce our location for next spring. Likely to be the same time frame, but always a new location.
Thanks for joining in. Your pictures are quite good.

Great event !! Thanks to Jonathan, Jim and Paul for putting this together ...our little caravan of 2 KC MINIs made it in at 11:00 pm last night, after spending 3 hours in the Badlands. Both MINIs are now spotless and resting.
Pictures will be posted soon...
It was great to get to meet so many new people and see some old friends too.
And one last Thanks to the SD MINIs for the fabulous Black Hills Motoring shirt.
