No. This is the first year, but it's been almost a year in the making. If you know a bit about the organizing clubs, you realize that they're an active, diverse group of MINI enthusiasts that have a history of large and small get-togethers in various locations. It will be fun. Don't miss it!

and will never happen again. As Rick noted, this event is organized by a diverse group of Motoring Friends from StL, KC, Omaha, Denver, Eastern Iowa, OKC and beyond. This is not a 'Dragon' type event and there will be nothing organized for you or any attendee in particular. Rather, we are organizing the destination, the daily rides, and no more.
But you and anyone can join in. You just make your own arrangements (will will provide details to do so) and just show up. No commitments, no fees, no charges, no big slow cold dinners. Just Motoring.
And next year, the location will change as a different 'club' will organize and make that decision.
Please PM me one person's contact info including name and email and we will gladly keep you in the loop.

As time draws near it would be nice to get some idea of where people were going to stay. Given the popularity of the area and demand for rooms, a little coordination with respect to at least towns by day would be prudent.
Of course this may just be the engineer in me expressing it's anal retentive nature.
Note that we have our crack recognaissance team (Zyamfier) actually in the field in Rapid City this very weekend. He is firming up details of things for us and we expect to have all details by early next week. At that time we will post full details (some of you have this already) and all your answers will be answered.
In case anyone is thinking of asking any other questions, let me go ahead and offer the standard answers I will be giving. Take your pick:
Who is welcomed to join this event? Anyone and everyone is welcomed to join this event.
Who is invited to join this event? Not everyone is invited to join this event. We intentionally are not doing broad publication, and we like it that way. This is a WOM event. Be discreet, like us.
Who will be arranging my route, dinners, lodging, and other details for me? Nobody. You are OYO. This is a DIY event.
What if I don't like the agenda that is posted or want to do something else while up there in the Rapid City area? Be my guest. Do as you please.
Will you be making t-shirts, grille badges, and other chochkees? Maybe. But we have no store and we are not in the Chochkee business. If you want to make some things and bring them along, let me know and I will gladly provide you our graphics. Other than that, what happens happens.
What does this event cost? There is no cost from us to you. We don't want your money. Figure out your own travel / lodging / entertainment costs. That is what it will cost.
Stay tuned. We expect to post full event details (don't hold your breath, there are not that many) and lodging recommendations, in the next few days.
For those anal retentive engineers among you, we also recommend that you apply those natural skills and tendencies to scheduling (and actually completing) your annual physical. Annual means yearly, not every 5 or 10. You have ignored it long enough. The fact that there are no outward appearing physical annoyances does not mean you are in perfect health. Let the doc probe and poke a bit. It is his job, and he is good at it. Frankly, it is an act of love when one takes care of his or her health so that they can live a long time on this earth. I am sure your family will appreciate having you around. And frankly, colonoscopies are not that bad. Just ask Dave Barry:

for a nice group picture. So far, our best options are the pullout locations along the Needles Highway, outside of Keystone....plan on it. I will post a video of that place.
We are also planning an evening drive via back roads from Hill City to Deadwood on Friday night. Dining will likely be at Jake's (Kevin Costner's restaurant). Unless of course, you have other suggestions.
We also will take a late drive Saturday up Spearfish Canyon.....thru Savoy...Cheyenne Crossing.....west of Rapid city. There are waterfalls up there also good for pictures. We may still see snow up there....
The Needles Highway, near Custer, SD, is a scenic highway running through Custer State Park in the Black Hills of South Dakota. It is signed as part of South Dakota State Highway 87. The highway was completed in 1922. Along its 14 miles, the road winds its way through high granite "needles". It also has two tunnels blasted through sheer granite walls. These tunnels are less than 13 feet high and 11 feet wide. Owing to the narrow roadway, sharp turns, and low tunnels, the road has very little traffic. The vehicles that do travel this road are almost exclusively sightseers. Travelers on the Needles Highway are required to pay the admission fee to Custer State Park. This road provides access to the Black Hills Playhouse and Sylvan Lake Resort.

Maybe (no pun intended) I read into it too much, but Chuck's calendar entry reads like there's a morning group photo on the 15th at the Alliance, NE rendezvous point. I take it that the group photo Jim is setting up near Keystone is the "real" one and will happen later that day, and not an additional one.

At this point, that is all that is scheduled. Jim is merely scouting locations and, when we get up there, we will pick a time and location to offer that up. I do not expect to make a decision on that in advance.
If somehow that affects your travel plans let me know. The reason for the 'no-decision' is that there are other factors in play here, including where the photographer goes during the day that day (undecided) and when he plans to be back (undecided) and where the picture is (undecided) and where and when dinner are (undecided) and if he is cranky due to constipation (likely).
If we can nail it down further we will. I am not at all sure that we will have that info before we are actually up there.

Okay, thanks for the clarification. I'll be coming west on I-90 but plan on doing the bulk of the trip on Thursday. It'll be fun to escape the freeway and do some ad hoc cross country motoring on Friday morning and meet up with the rest of the group in Alliance.

There are folks coming from Chicago and Minneapolis as well. I suspect most will post here re the routes and timing.

For anyone who may be bringing their dog/dogs. I just researched the hotel/motels that were recommended & the Super 8 is the only motel with no restrictions. $10 per dog per night. The Golden Spike allows pets but they cannot be left in the room alone The rest of the places do not allow pets. So it looks like Mark, me & the fuzzy girls will be staying at the Super 8 in Hill City
Yippee, I can hardly wait
Lois
PS Happy Birthday, Jim Mine was Monday & Mark's is today Us January babies are the bestest

Three nights in the books at the BW GS for me. The large parking lot appeals to the OCD in me. Plus, the points thing...
