Hello Everyone,
Im driving a MINI E in New Jersey. When i picked up my car I was told I had to go through Liberty Mutual. I feel they are raping me at $800 a year for liability. I thought we were only paying for liability? I pay less than that for full coverage on my corvette through Geico. I also have State Farm and Metropolitan on other cars i own. None of them charge me this much, however i dont think i can insure the MINI with them. Is this the case? Anybody have anything other than Liberty Mutual? They price they gave me at the dealer when picking up the car was also $200 higher than what they originally quoted me. They also tried to stick me with higher limits than the original quote was for. Just to compare, Im 30 something married with a perfect driving record. Why am i paying so much? I just read someone in CA is paying $22 a month for a MINI-E.
Yeah, do call around! It seems that every insurance company tends to like a different demographic, even though Liberty Mutual is the "preferred" BMW/MINI insurance company, they have always had higher rates when I have checked with them for my past BMWs and my MINI.
A couple of years ago I called around a few companies, and I was able to get the same coverage that I had through Nationwide with Travelers for 1/2 the price! They even beat Progressive and Geico, which usually advertise that they are the lowest. Yet someone else could call and get totally different numbers. I've learned with insurance that the only way to tell is to call 3 or 4 companies and get quotes.

You should be able to insure the Mini E through the other companies you use. Give them a call for a quote. I have USAA and the Mini E premium is only $200, but I insure everything through them.
edit - the $200 is for 6 months.
Liberty kept increasing their price every time I talked to them. At the end it was $890 a year. Then I told him I would call around and called my normal insurer Geico and got it for $2xx for six months. I do not remember the exact amount. The Liberty guy for the MINI E also told me no one else would insure the car, looks like he was wrong many times over.
Liberty ended up being cheaper for me than my previous carrier. My total insurance bill went slightly down. My previous carrier quoted me $400 additional. Kind of crazy since I am single and can only drive one car at a time, so the liability portion really shouldn't change.

Keep in mind that with insurance, you get what you pay for. Ask around for people who have had claims experience. I have been a claims adjuster for 30 years and I can tell you horror stories about some of the carriers.

I'm the guy in California that posted the $22 a month number. That was for liabilty only.
For the record It was slightly wrong. The real number for the Mini-E policy is $28.50 a month. When they added the non insured and other goodies onto the policy it grew by $6.
Below is the policy from Allstate.
Also, Just sold the G35 so back to three cars, two are electric!

Thanks everyone. I called geico and im waiting for a call back from state farm. I didnt like being forced to go with liberty mutual especially since their price was so much higher. Thanks Peder for posting that info. Thanks everyone else also and if there is anyone else not insured with liberty let me know.
