That's just because you haven't reeeally heard me complain afterwords...I'm horrible with directing, that's why I'm trying to work on it as well. I can photograph myself all day long but telling someone else how to pose and look is an entirely diferent story. Bugs, puppies & cars are easy
I can't stand doing those types of shots:impatient What I find works best for me is just always having my camera around and getting people used to me always taking photos of everthing, they rapidly become comfortable with it. I'm always watching, so from several to a few feet away I can get some decent candids; If I just miss something I like by a couple seconds, I usually ask them to simply physically move back a little and usually get what I am looking for. Out and out direction I ethier can't do or always looks akward when I try it.
I've found when you capture people in their enviroment they are much more comfortable and if oyu watch closely you'll get better results. In the cas eof doing a photoshoot where I wante dot include the owner, perhaps riding shot gun to and froma meet or a track day with that in mind, end up with dozens to choose the best 10 or so.
I think we mixed up "press photos" with "press" and your photog became a photojournalist. photo journalists are usually pretty decent with people shots, and many of the thigns I just described is how quite a few of those are reached.
Give me a few minutes and I'll update this with a few examples of what I mean (going to be careful selecting which ones, as I respect wishes of many about having images posted on the web)
They are pretty cool, wish I could get my Mini into my studio at school, it would almost fit into the elavator but no chance fitting in through the door, someday..someday. About the photos, they are cool but kinda repeatative, sorry about the critizism, I am an art student its how I am, sorry. Of course I am only looking at those few shots , would like to see some different perspectives

Yeah, we didn't do too many perspectives, he just had a bit of time before he had a model coming in, so we just did the head on shots in the studio and then the few outside.
My bad! It was me who read "press shots" and took the leap to press photographer. Ooops, and sorry.
My comments were intended to reference some old, classic, techniques used to photograph women to bring out their "best" sides. eg, hips at 45 deg., legs crossed below the knee, etc. Black pants, no stripes, you know...
I'm sorry that it got all caught up with the "people photos" conversation. I know, Rachael, it was all about your MINI. The photos show your car very well, and few of us get a chance to have a studio session with a car!!
I tend to look for backgrounds in the built environment where I can park the car easily:

Rachael, took a listening break from my usual DJ sets (Armin van Buuren, Paul van Dyk, Digweed, etc) and checked out your tunes on myspace. Very impressive, well done. Can't think of why I haven't already heard your name before, especially if Gabriel & Dresden have already remixed your work. I'll look forward to hearing more.
My meager $.02 after looking at the other promo photos you linked to; go knock back some brews with Em, get silly together and have her photograph you. She's got the right skills and just needs a relaxed model. IMHO, she'll pull off something much more creative to your liking.
Thanks for sharing the Mini studio shots.
