My apologies for the delay in posting this, I was offline most of the holiday weekend. Consider me (not so) tanned, rested, and ready for another month's photo contest....
This is the 19th installment of the monthly photo contest on NAM.
NOTE: The photo contest is held to encourage people to take new photos with the topic in mind. As a result, please do not submit any photos taken before the contest topic was announced (see contest rules regarding EXIF data).
July's Photo Contest is sponsored by VacuCam.
Since I haven't had a chance to confirm the prize yet, I'll leave it TBD, though I would assume it will be similar to past month's prize. Again, thanks to OctaneGuy for supporting the photo contest.
July's topic :: Out of Focus
Interpret that how you will, keeping in mind that the photos must be MINI related and that only one photo per member per month may be submitted.
dam!
was hoping all them rubbish pan shots i did trained me well
a pic i took completely ballsing up the pan
This one isn't totally out of focus, but it is on the way to it.
That's actually the fourth frame I shot in that pan. this was the third.

Did you ever get that 105mm F/2.8? I haven't kept up, has it been released?

Long story. (about as long as the wait)
After a few months of waiting, I asked Samy's Camera for my money back. They were very understanding. It seems they have an exceptionally long wait for the 105 micro and 18-200mm VRs right now.

Yeah, selective focusing can be tricky!
Already went out and tried some test shots. (gotta try other ideas, though)

That was my first thought was to break out my lensbaby like I used on my "flowers" contest entry. Pop out the apperature ring and use it wide open (f/2.0?) for more selective focus.
I've got some other ideas however that go along with your f/2.8 Aperature priority shooting suggestions though. I'll just have to wait for lower light levels since I don't have any ND filters.
It's going to be a fun month and I look forward to seeing what everyone comes up with.
Cheers,
Dave

2. The photo must be MINI related, comply with the site guidelines, be no larger than 800 x 600 in size.
Is 600 x 800 acceptable (portrait vs. landscape)? I only ask because some of the portrait oriented photos have been cropped.
Here's a photo of mine that reminds me a bit of Dave's blurred photo example:

Good of you to start mentioning this. It could save all of us some time.

Question, what about us, or me who wants to shoot this with my film camera? I will scan in the photo.
That's fine, if you wouldn't mind, when you upload the photo, just make a notation in the comments field that it was shot in July (not required, just helpful).
I have a fun idea that I hope to enter this month :D Fun topic!
Fun!
That's the most important part of this monthly challenge, that, win or lose, we all have fun working on the assignment.
I've certainly had a good time getting a few people to smile with some of the ones I've entered.
Shooting the "Roadkill" wheel pic was pretty funny because I was laying down on this road with someone covering my back. People would stop, thinking we needed help.
For the "Flowers" challenge, I had fun just creating the MINI seed packet and matching up the Mini "seedlings" to the MINI pictured on the envelope. (there were actual seeds inside.) I made two, of which I gave one away.
Anyway, it's good to see, or at least read into, Mile's enthusiasm. (that's the teacher in me.) I'm looking forward to everyone's ideas coming to fruition.
I just can't focus on an idea worth taking a photo of. For me, this month's topic is a challenge, and that's what makes it fun (as I'm trying to convince myself). You would think the auto-focus would give me plenty of opportunity...

Hmmm, something like this? Ms. Speednut caught this one on the return trip from the NorCal Minis Yosemite run. The camera had an easier time auto-focusing on the bug jerky than on the yellow Mini & mini ahead. Reminds me of a really bad dusty slide scan.
Oh, and Kurt, that stuff on the sides of the photo is dead yellow stuff without traces of other colors. See, I told you it's not all water and green stuff here.
