i like it

One thing i would play with if you decided to give this another try:

1) LIGHTING - Wait until later in the afternoon, or for a 'mostly cloudy' day. Shooting in harsh light (9-4) can make it tricky to get proper lighting. It makes the shadows very pronounced and it washes out all of the nice colors. One of my favorite times to take photos is around 7-8:45 on these summer nights. The sun is nice and low, isnt too bright, and it often has a rich yellow tint to it.

I'll take some more pics at that time and post them. Maybe that will do the trick!

Full shade is better than sunlight. Cloudy days are even better.

I just timed out trying to access them.

That said, here is a link to some photography advice I wrote up previously

I think you're framing is great. They're all a little over exposed though. I think the lighting would work. But the frame is filled with mostly dark areas which tricks the camera into over exposing the bright areas.

You could put the car in more even lighting or you could try to zoom in and fill the frame with a bright area, push the shutter button half way down to get the camera to get an exposure setting, then zoom back out to frame the car correctly and push the shutter the rest of the way down.

I've had good luck taking car photos with late afternoon light shooting directly onto the car. They're not MINI photos (our car is on order), but you get the idea:

(check out the 4th photo. Ignore the scanned brochure photos and race photos)

That fourth photo looks pretty darn good. Although, my favorites are #5 and #8!

Thanks!

OT: I hope our MINI will be as fun (and competitive as the Miata).

Same here. Probably due to my work firewall blocking access to port 8100. Any chance this server could use the standard port 80 for http?

Dave, the making Mini photographs is a good thread. Any chance of making it Sticky?

Yeah, that was my problem too. They work from my home though.

RE: the photos
I'd say RallyMINI already identified the primary issue being the time of day. The other one is to be careful of the background in terms of what gets in and what is getting partially cropped out.

Shadows and reflections.
If you can, make them your friends, lest they become foes.

Probably the best advice you'll find on that sticky is to get out and shoot as often as you can. (at least twice a week)
