Since I'm also a professional paint polisher, I wouldn't think of developing a product that could harm my paint. So absolutely not, it won't hurt. Of course as Dave says, you should take basic precautions. Clean the surface you are applying to. And I don't recommend my VacuCams for exterior mounting for Pepper White owners due to paint staining/chemical reaction issues.

Since the mic is built into the camera, it's wherever the camera is.
However since the camera has only 1 mic, there is nothing keeping you from running a separate mic to the open audio channel. What do I mean by open? Your camcorder has a left and right stereo audio. The camera has one audio channel. That would take either the left or right audio channel on the camcorder. Thus you can plug in another mic on the unused channel.
