Took these tonight, let me know what you guys think. Bads and goods. I want to enter one of them into the 2006 calender photo contest, but not sure which one i like, or if I should even bother entering one. I numbered them, please give me your opinons of which one you like best. TIA.
How did you manage to have such a place with nobody walking around?
2 things I wish you would have done, first of all the second pic is my favorite, I wish you had taken them without the roof rack and one with the lights on the car, just to see how it would look like with all the other lights, maybe only the parking and fog lights.
Black car with those wheels is awesome.
On the 2nd picture, I also like the light reflection on the plastic flares.
I like those all quite a bit. The first and last being my favorite. That's a fantastic location.
One thing I would fix is the white balance. All of the photos have the yellow/orangish colorcast from not having set your white balance to incandecent.

I know exactly what you mean about the white balance. I'm obviously still learning this camera, i just can't quite produce top notch photos. I'm using a digital rebel. Is there a setting on the camera to change it to incandecent? or is that done in photoshop? Help and opinions are greatly appreciated! TIA

There are two methods, on-camera being the easiest in the end because it will set the white balance for all of the shots for that set of photos.
Method 1: On Camera
- if you shoot your photos RAW format you can simply choose incandecent white balance when you edit the images and then custom edit the white balance further if you'd like.
- if you shoot your photos JPEG, then find the white balance menu and scroll through the options at the time you're taking the photos. Do some tests to determine the color type of the dominant light source (at night) and then pick the best one (probably either tungsten or fluorescent for night photography).
EDIT: note, JPEG white balance settings need to be changed prior to the act of taking the picture.
Method 2: in photoshop
if you have the full blown edition of photoshop (say photoshop 7 or CS or CS2) you can go to "Levels" then pick the white eye dropper and pick a point on your photo that should be white. Play around with it a bit to see how picking different points can alter the look of the overall image.

Nice work
I think i got lucky with no one being around  It was a Tuesday night though, so it was a ghost town!
The roof rack does it for me. I like the look. I took it off last spring and my car looked naked. So i just put it back on for snowboarding season!
The lights being on in the picture, i know i should of tried, but i was moving quickly before anyone was around, but i can always go back and shoot more!
The roof rack adds all the style....go to a local euro meeting and you will see it.
I think it adds a great functional look to the car and really brings the ideas of rallies and roadtrips into my head....what could be better for a MINI?
Konky, i think they all look great....keep up the great work. You are representing TMMZ well
As far as the white balance goes, I'm shooting with the rebel too, and white balance is pretty easily adjusted on there. The other thing you can do is shoot in RAW, and then you do what Dave said as far as editing in photoshop, etc.
White balance is something that is really tricky for me still... I've been experimenting with it lately, and it definitely makes a difference. I'll do things like taking one shot (on a tripod) and doing it in each of the WB modes to see what happens... it's interesting to see what each one does to the photo.
OH, and I agree with Rally on the rack thing. I like it
I kinda like the orangish tones, gives it a warm feeling, but i do wanna see the difference, I'll be snapping new ones soon.
Viewing these on different monitors (meaning at home and work) they look alittle different also, i probably need to calibrate one of my monitors, but I'd like to see how it looks on everyone elses screen
WB pix provides more depth, dimension, and color contrast which in turn gives focus to subject in foreground and background...win/win. Depending on what you want to say with the pix...reality or imagination.
I like what you did, definitely makes the car look better!
To me though, since I was there in person, it doesn't look right now cause the lights at that place are very yellow orangish. I think I'm gonna do a happy medium in between mine and yours, then submit it to the calendar entry. Thanks again Dave!

Here is 50% opacity for the white balance edit overlaid on the original.
Actually, that's my favorite of the three edits so far.
