I just recently received this player as a gift and it's now my favorite set top DVD player. With a street price of $70 from
Amazon.com it's definitely one of the best buys out there. So if you want to stop having to buy a new DVD player every year, this is the one to buy as it will play just about every possible format out there including the ones produced here by enthusiasts on NAM such as my Malibu DVD.
It plays practically every format available including DivX movies, PAL and NTSC DVD's, and VCD,SVCD, MP3's!

The DVP642's progressive-scan functionality allows compatible TVs to display the even and odd numbered lines of an image in a single pass. This minimizes screen flicker, which is easier on your eyes.

The player will play JPEG images one by one automatically, letting you zoom in, rotate, or flip the picture vertically or horizontally. A set of left/right analog-audio outputs channel audio to Dolby Pro Logic receivers and stereo televisions. Dolby Digital 5.1-channel surround-sound signals can be routed through the player's digital-audio outputs (one each of RCA coaxial and Toslink optical) for direct connection to a full-featured audio/video receiver.
