Flip Video Users?

Who else here uses Flip Video?
I just got one and am trying to get the hang of it.

I returned mine. My PC (and 3 others I tried) wouldn't recognize it. Otherwise it seemed to produce pretty good video for its size.

That's too bad you got a lemon.
Mine works with the PC and MacBook Pro from work and my MacBook here at home.

I guess it was a lemon. Picture quality looked good though. It seems to me these units could easily be attached to the outside of a car, and well, you can imagine the rest!

I got the RCA version. It's called the Small Wonder EZ-201. 30 minutes of high quality and one hour of low quality video. Also takes SD cards for longer footage. These sub $100 video cameras work ok with good lighting. I got one to have something relatively cheap to keep in the car for those spontaneous family moments. I did take one test car-cam style video with a suction mount. Sorry, the sound didn't transfer to the iMovie app on my mac. I didn't bother troubleshooting, yet.

Anyway, I ended getting this rear view camera cam to have continuous coverage while I'm driving to record accidents and other interesting events.

The model I got is the black Flip Video Ultra. It has a 60 minute recording capability.

Here's my first video with it.

It's kind of shaky. That's why I wanted tips on how to avoid that.

lacning74 - thanks for sharing your vid. I really liked how it came out, even without the audio. Quick question... what was that mount you used for your camera?

blacknblue - thanks for sharing also. I think I'm going to take a look at that camera this weekend. Have you taken any video with the Flip mounted in the MINI while driving? I'd be curious to see how it comes out.

Dang Juan, you're not kidding about the shakiness? Tips? How about laying off the Starbucks a bit... j/k

Does it have a tripod socket? Maybe use a mono-pod?

Were you able to get it working 100% with iMovie (06 or 08)? I might consider one of these if it works with iMovie.

My dad has one and I'll ask him. I know the quality is great.

Personally for the shaky thing, keep your arm tucked tight to your body. So your upper arm is pressing against your chest and stomach. Your elbow almost resting on your hip. Kinda like your taking a photograph with a low shutter speed.

Hope this helps!

I haven't yet tried mounting it to my MINI yet even though I have the tools for it.

You might check out my buddy's blog for more samples though. It's through him I found out about the Flip.

Dave, yes it has a tripod socket. When I was looking at some of my buddy's video, I noticed he used a Gorillapod to help hold his Flip. I figure I can also use a one of my small tripods or the monopod for better stability.

As for iMovie, I have the '06 version and it works well. However, the Flip records in .avi so it takes a little while to convert it to .dv on my MacBook but not as long on the MacBook Pro from work.

The white ultra is on sale at Best Buy this week for $149.99 (only on the white one) I ordered mine. So, maybe this years Dragon vids will be more than the single one I took last year. Got to love the cooler banging around in the boot.

ok... so I'm either really cheap or just a bargain hunter...

I was all set to buy the flip video from BB after checking it out it over the weekend. Then I decided to see if I could find it cheaper in ebay... no luck there. Then I decided to look for the RCA EZ201... I ended up getting the RCA for $60 from ebay, NIB . Got it in the mail yesterday and I'm starting to play with it a bit. the thing I like about it is you can expand the memory with an SD card. will be very helpful come Dragon time since I won't have a laptop to download those videos to... I'll start off slow with baby videos

I'll never understand why people bid on items when you can get them cheaper as a "buy it now"

it looks like there's two models for the Aiptek HD... the A-HD is going for $130-$160 while the GO-HD is $200-$300. not sure what the difference is... hope that helps...

I just ordered a RAM mount (suction cup) for the camera and to replace the mount for my gps. Hopefully I'll get to try some in-car video next weekend.

I am really not much of a video guy but I have found myself wanting one of the flip video cameras for when I do want to shoot some video. They had a pretty good price on them last time I was at Costco.

I've been wanting one as well, but I think I'm going to wait for the next generation or whatnot. I'd like one that does a better job at image stabilization, for one.
