AVCHD format, have you tried it yet?

AVCHD Video (Advance Video Codec High Definition) is very interesting. Have anyone got a first hand experience in one yet?

What kind of editing software that you like the most?, Sony Vegas Pro 8?

I'm thinking about getting a HD camcorder in AVCHD format. I'm looking at the new Sony HDR-SR12.

Hmm...the HC-7 records in HDV format not in AVCHD, doesn't it?
But it's a nice camera though.

AVCHD is a newer format, used by Sony and Panasonic.

I've read conflicting opinions on the quality of the image. Some say it's better, some say worse. I stopped researching that issue when it turned out my cam wasn't dead after all.

I also read about some AVCHD compatability issues, drivers or Vista issues.

There are both camcorders that record to a hard drive, and ones that record to solid state memory. The solid state units will take a SD card or such for more capacity. I thought the solid state a good idea. All camcorders I've ever owned failed by the tape drive or heads going. So while a hard drive would be better, solid state sounds best to me.

I've got an HV10, shoots in HDV onto MiniDV tapes, then I put that into the comp, currently using Studio (plan to also have Adobe suite by end of the month, and as I originally learned in Primere and After Effects and am fluent with Photoshop CS3 I expect I'll be able to hone things better) that does VCD DVD HDDVD AVCHD format burning. I don't have anything setup for Blu-Ray so I'm yet to do much of anything with AVCHD aside from keeping the driver info current and shooting in as high a quality as the camera allows me.

Not sure if I can really help but feel free to fire away any questions you've got.

Thanks for the info.

I'm trying to do some research about the good and most userfriendly software in the market (pc base).

I'm going toward Sony Vegas Pro 8, but I heard that it's not that easy to work with. Any other software the you'd recommend?

I would like to work with AVCHD format and also be able to convert from HD to CD and so on.

No, I only played with my cousins prosumer mega $ HD cam. Like $5k + worth. I did edit it, but just for laughs to see what it would do. I have a late model HP 9xxx laptop with Vista Premium, it came with a HD video input and tuner card, and the VISTA version of Windows Movie Maker does HD.

Not the best but I already had it for free, enough to play with.

I saw five new Canon flash only (SDHC) cameras at CES that all output in AVCHD. Panasonic uses that same format.
