Shutter release recommendation for Canon Rebel XTi?
Good morning,
I am looking online for a shutter release for my Rebel XTi, so that I can use the BULB shutter speed and take long-exposure night shots. Does anyone have an opinion? I was on Amazon looking at the Canon models (rectangular things) and the Dot Line (Looks like a syringe plunger), not sure what to do.
Thanks! --doug

If you're just looking to avoid camera movement, you could just use the self-timer too, already built in. Of course, then you have to wait a few seconds for each shot...
I have and would reccomend the in house Canon equivalent to the dot line.
There are several advantages provided bya relase that the selftimer can't provide,
*etended "bulb" release
*no camera shake during action shots where you need the shutter to go now not in 10 sec
*ability to place camaeraon mount on car andtake rolling shors when camera is out of photographers reach
And if you've got money to burn, there's Pocket Wizards too. You'd need two of them and the camera cable, but then you'd have a remote flash controller too. :D
Canon Wireless Remote Control RC1 for Digital Rebel
It is less than $25 from Amazon and works great with my XT. From what I understand it works with the XTi as well. Just set the camera into timer mode and point at front of camera, press remote button and shutter fires immediately or in 2 second delay, depending on how it is set.

How sensitive is the image sensor in an XTi to IR? If the IR remote can do bulb exposures (and I assume you'd still have to hold the remote in front of the camera) would the remote show up as a bright spot?
Edit: I use a remote that plugs into the camera. I've had it for years and used it on my old 35mm before digital existed. I used it just last week but can't seem to find where I put it to give you model number. When I find it I'll update my post.
