MidCal weekend in Santa Cruz * 2/21-2/22, 2009

Hi gang:
Kurt & Marty have graciously offered their Santa Cruz bungalow for a MidCal MINI weekend- February 21-22, 2009. The house is nestled in the redwood trees just up Hwy. 9 towards Felton & is approximately 10 minutes from the beach so the spot's gonna be perfect.

I've added a polling option to this thread so people can weigh in with their "run" preference. We're going to tailor this weekend around what you guys want, so please throw out what you're looking to do, ie. read books on the beach, romp around the hills, BBQ v. restaurant, etc.

Is there a hotel nearby? I am interested in a ride not sure of what to expect. I have an 09' and would like to meet a few MINI owners. Thanks! forgive me, I am learning about the forum etiquette.

Great for you to post Skerm8! We'd love to have you hang out with our group. Lil Miss (aka Marty & Kurt) will be posting hotel/motel information so watch for that. If you'd like further details outside of this thread, PM me your e-mail address & I'll add you to the MidCal Minis e-mail list so you can be kept up-to-date on all the latest/greatest. (Note: Your information will be private & confidential.)

Hope to join this run, Save me at least a floor space
Have found a few great runs in those coastal mountains and a few favorite spots. So besides a run to the "pier" I hope to be able to interject some fun roads to the weekend.

Hey you guys there are some great roads in that area. REME has done the "Santa Cruz" Mountain runs a few times. Here are some links to maps we ran the past few years. Feel free to use them or parts of them.

http://redwoodempiremini.com/PDF/REME%20Santa%20Cruz%20Mtn%202007.pdf

http://redwoodempiremini.com/PDF/Santa%20Cruz%20Mountains%20Run%202006.pdf

I also have taken runs with MOASF (Mini Owners of San Francisco). They do their yearly Beach Bonsai run. It's a blast. If you are interested I can see if I can dig up a map for that as well.

CHeers,

CHeers,
Awesome. Thanks Norm!! Once we've settled on the run we're going to do, I'll PM you to get your thoughts on the specifics. Hope all's well in your neck-of-the-woods!

We are looking forward to going. Too bad we can't vote for all the options, but everything we do should be great.

Question... does the group use two-way radios on these types of runs and if so, what is the recommended brand and the number of channels etc? Ebitz and I are hoping to join but we are still trying to nail down our calendars for February - tax season and new Mayor, our days do not belong to us.

Here's a list of Santa Cruz hotels with something for everyone in regards to price point: Santa Cruz hotels. Let the countdown to February fun begin!

Note: Kikimowse, we're all still trying to nail down the best type of 2-ways for our kind of driving. I have a pair of Motorolas ($100 for the pair), but I can't stand em'. This is something I'm researching right now, so when I narrow it down to what's going to work I'll post here so everyone knows.

Hi everyone!

Looking forward to seeing you all in Santa Cruz in February! The weather has been beautiful over there. When it is ugly here it usually is gorgeous on the coast. For your information I have attached a PDF document with 3 motels that are close to our house in Santa Cruz. They are all nice, clean, and reasonably priced.

If you have any detailed questions regarding the area just drop us a line. We will be happy to reply.

Marty

We have a great opportunity to use our hobby/passion to help a fantastic cause. We'll be doing a couple Charity Run(s) for a Yosemite Ridge Camp which provides a get-away for children with life-threatening and/or chronic diseases. One of the runs will be during our trip to Santa Cruz & then we'll follow-up with a few local runs.

Yosemite Ridge Camp is a place kids can go & spend time with other children who share their same health struggles, but due to bad economic times they've recently lost it's largest single donor. There are a couple of immediate weekend camps scheduled for March but no funds are available to help these children. We are all blessed to have our family & our friends and this is a perfect opportunity to reach out to help kids who are struggling with their illness.

Here's a link to the organization so you can see the details first-hand:

We have cancellation on the upstairs room. We therefor have room available for 2 couples that get along or all male / female or...... wait for it.......
GROUP SLEEP.
It's a shame to let this room go to waste due to it has King and queen size beds in it and a lot of floor space for sleeping bags. ( dorm style )

Let me know if interested.

Me and the wife will take one of the beds if still available? P.S. we will only be there Saturday night. Staying in Salinas Friday night. So if someone wants it for both nights they should get first dibs. But we will use it if nobody wants it.

Just so everyone knows, We won't be over to Santa Cruz until late Friday night. Kinda not expecting guests until around 8 am Saturday morning. That way I can make coffee and wake up!
