Help pick the new Frackmobile!

Alright gang, I might need a little help here. Since my beloved car is no more I need to get another Mini. This won't be a daily driver since Jill & I work together, but I'm looking for something which would be fun, sorta/kinda practical for limited jaunts & has the "Fracky" spirit.

Option #1:
2004 MCS autocross car with all the things I'm looking for: MCS that's been babied, roll cage, harnesses, suspension & BBK (which I can swap with Dr.Steve). 2004 Autocross MCS

Option #2:
1966 Mini - aka "The Dragonflyer". This is one of the coolest custom v-tec classic Mini's in the US. I'll need to have a custom roll cage fabricated to help ensure Cookiehead I won't die if somebody does something stupid & hits me. The Freakin' Dragonflyer!!

Place your votes & weigh in with your thoughts!

Maybe look for a late modle TURBO car for the good doctor to play with???if you are wide eyed. jmho

Fracky both these cars are awesome and you can find more http://www.cars.com/go/search/detail...eadExists=true on the web such as this one. The question that I would have for you would you rather start with someone else's work most of which would be unknown like your wiring on the Frackmobile and have to go from their stopping point? You seem to enjoy picking out what mods will fit you and then having the Dr do the surgery where you know it will be done right and where it will not cause lights to flash blink or just stay on. Just my .02 cents

You guys all make great points & I probably should've put the caveat in my first post that the new vehicle won't be breaking the bank like the old one. If I get the MCS, I'll certainly do some things to it but nowhere on the scale of the last adventure. For insurance purposes, I had to paw through 7" of receipts, put everything on a MS Excel spreadsheet & , wow that's a lotta moohlah.

For those of you who haven't been following all the action in 'The Big Thanks' MidCal thread. Here's the before & after and the reason for needing a "Fracky part deux".

If you get a fairly stock, low mileage 02/06 MCS for around $20k you will have plenty of mod money. The only reason you spent so much on your last one was all the malpractice and replacement of earlier mods (and some very expensive bling, but I won't go there). You've already got about $6k worth of recoverable mods from Frackmobile 1 so you don't have to break the bank to get back to where you were. The one thing going for the DragonFlyer is that there don't seem to be any palm trees near it. The AZ car scares me since there are dozens of palm trees around it.

I would have to agree with the Dr we never seem to have time or money to do it right the first time however when we screw it up we always find a way to pay for it a second time, be it with time or money. Usually more then if we had paid for it to be done right the first time. I would think that I could do my own gauges in my car however if I get in over my head.. thus when I do install my new gauges it will be at the Custom Mini Shop for the work getting them done right the first time.

Well said Chief!! Dr.Steve's a raving fan of the PLX Devices gauges, so have him hook you up with a set.

Alright gang. Practicality, air-conditioning & "Mini not tiny" have won out. Life's full of compromises & I agreed to live another +30 years. I bought the 2004 white MCS & will be working out shipping and insurance tomorrow.

Good choice Joe! Now if you could just find the time for a few car control exercises at the the track or auto-x venues you'll have better odds of living to that ripe old age.

I think we'll just keep it at the shop on display and let him pretend to drive it like that video he posted in the MidCal video thread.

Thanks Cliff! I talked to Chris & I'm going to be joining you, Willum & Chris on some of your track days. I definitely need to become a better/safer performance driver and having an instructor & lots of practice is key.
