Attention Mid-Ohio Members! 2007 Dublin St. Patrick's Day Parade!

Attention all MoM Club members!

I've signed the club up to be included in this year's Dublin, Ohio St. Patrick's Day Parade on Saturday, March 17. I told the organizers that we could likely present 6-10 cars in the line-up. If you are interested in participating, please reply to this thread or IM me NO LATER THAN MARCH 7, to hold your spot.

If we look like we'll have more than 10 cars thart want to attend, I'll ask the organizers if we can expand our entry. Likewise, if we are told that we need to limit the number of cars, I'll let everyone know. Either way, if you'd like to join us in the parade PLEASE reply as early as possible!

One other thing... It would be cool, I think, if we can get 3 cars with the colors of the Irish flag (green, white and orange, in that order) to drive side-by-side at the head of the group. As I have an orange car, I'd be happy to take that color, but we'll still need a green and white car. If you have that color and would like to be in the front group, please let me know. If anyone has access to a large Irish flag, that would be wonderful to fly from the white (center) car - I'm working on that as well, but if anyone has one and would be willing to let us use it for the parade, please let me know. Flying a British Union Jack would be fun as well.

Well, the NORTHERN Irish do, anyway... But I have plenty of family over there that don't seem too riled up by the situation over there. ANd hey, we're talking a parade, not a political referendum.

Hehe trust me it's not just the north we English hate but then again, us brits seem to hate everyone for some reason. I have a massive St. George's Cross flag you can use.

OK, I spoke with the parade co-ordinator this morning and we're confirmed for the parade!

Here's what we plan so far:

The group will be lead by my dog, Xander (an English mastiff/St. bernard mix who has been in the parade in the past). He'll be towing a wagon that will sport a banner I'm making with the club logo and contact info (thanks go to Outmotoring for sponsoring our banner!).

After that will be our orange, white and green cars in the side-by-side Irish flag formation. If we can get an Irish flag I'd love to fly it from the center car - anyone have one?

The rest of the group will follow behind in whatever formation seems best for the width of the parade route.

The group will assemble on Saturday morning in the Metro Center parking lot in Dublin - more details will be forthcoming as soon as they decide where in the parade we will be placed. You'll know as soon as *I* know (should be the first week in March).

If anyone else has any other ideas let me know. I approached MAG with a request to sponsor the group with candy or other hand-outs and was told that they're "still deciding how they'll participate in the parade". Not really a brush-off per se, but I got the impression that they had their own plans. If someone has a good relationship with anyone over at MAG and wants to see if they'll give us funds for candy or something just let me know here or via IM.

Here's our banner (will be 3'X15"). I'll make 2 - one for each side of the wagon that will lead the group. We did this last year for my wife's daycare and they looked pretty sharp.

Thanks, Chuck! Took it over to Kinko's last night - should have a proof tomorrow afternoon. I wanted us to be able to use it again other places - we should try to secure a corner of the parking lot at the Dragon, and show everyone where the "cool kids" are parking.

very nice! I hope that logo can be blown up that much. It looked a little pixalated on the badges so that would worry me. make sure you take a good look at a full size proof if you can before paying for it.

The original file was an .EPS so it scales well... I just made a 1200PPI raster version and then put it into the banner file. At one point, with all the text layers, the working original was over 650MB. I saw a sample last night and it looks fantastic - we'll definitely be able to use the banners for other things in the future.

Very nice! I'm sure your computer loved pushing around a 650mb file.

It sucked... Every time I did ANYTHING it took like 2-5 minutes to execute the command. Made working on it VERY frustrating. Oh well.

So it looks like we have 6 cars for sure... anyone else? If so PLEASE post in here or send me an IM letting me know that you plan to attend. I told the organizers "6-10 cars" and if we end up with more I'd like to let them know. I'm reasonably certain that they'd allow more than 10 (and I'd LOVE to show up with 15-20 or more) but I want to be sure that people all have a slot that want to attend.

If anyone reading this knows someone that might like to drive out for this pass it along - we'd love to have more participants.

QUESTION: I'm considering having an informal gathering after the parade, either at a local eatery (Old Bag of Nails, possibly, or some place similar), OR I'd be willing to donate my house to the group if people want to hang out after the actual parade. Are people wanting to do that, or are you all just needing to scatter after the event?

OK, I have details for our line-up!!

See THIS SITE for a .PDF map of Metro Place in Dublin - look for Lot 3 (that's where we'll be).

DATE/TIME: Saturday, Matrch 17 @ 10:00AM (parade starts PROMPTLY at 11:00 so be early).

PLACE: Metro Place in Dublin (just off Franz Rd. - take 270 to the Dublin/161 exit and follow the signs that will be all over - for reference, Metro Place is on the other side of 161 from where MAG is).

WHAT TO BRING: Your car. Yourself. Irish/Union Jack flags (if you have 'em). Shamrocks or assorted St. paddy's Day schtuff...

CONTACT INFO IF YOU GET LOST: Matt (614-580-7003) or Kara (614-580-7623) - use them - we have cells.

We're near the rear of the parade, unfortunately, so we won't be able to stop and see much if it afterwards, so we'll meet back in Lot 3 after the parade and decide where to go have a celebratory pint afterwards...

If you haven't yet sent me a PM about attending or have not posted here just plan to show up - I don't think they're being too anal about us since we're near the back.

See you all next Saturday!!

Tomorrow's the big day! We'll be in place (Lot 3 in Metro Center parking lot) at around 10:00 - look for the red Suburban, the purple wagon with our banners and my HO cabrio. Hope everyone that was planning to attend will make it down for the parade!
