Got an offer yesterday from a silicon valley software company, and it looks like my 6 month "vacation" from work will be ending on the 14th!! Yaay!! Thanks to everyone that sent me recommendations and contacts - while nothing panned out from them, it was a wonderfully thoughtful gesture.
Now I can get those Mini/MININ parts I've had on my wish list since March!

Thanks all! No, I'm not moving - they're letting me work remote. Anyone have any advice? I've never done that before...
I hope I'm an early indicator as well... It's brutal out there.

Congratulations on the job. It appears things may be turning around out there. Interviews are starting to happen again and now two people in one week get jobs in Central Ohio.

So Matt can't detail my Mini while he is "working" I thought the only reason people worked from home was so they didn't have to actually work at all, my fantasy of working from home has officially been ruined.

Sure, he can still do your b!tch work, as long as you're not part of his household.
I had a boss that used to detail his car while on conference calls.
22 years working from home... I totally agree to all of these!
Plus:
- set hours for yourself, including a lunch break
- get out for lunches - with people
- get a dog or two for company
- make sure you get in some "staff retreats" aka... naps!

Get up at the same time every day.
Shave,Shower, Dress (no PJ's) and ready to work.
Make an area that is "your office" and make sure you can be blocked off from the rest of the place.
Hard wire into your router. VPN (I'm assuming you'll need to) pretty much sucks over wireless.
If you've got cable internet (Time Warner) upgrade to the Turbo.
Get a dedicated phone. (probably required anyway)
See if they use any sort of telephony software to keep in touch with co-workers (we use Skype at my job)
Remind everyone around you that just because you're home doesn't mean you can be their b!tch to do laundry, yardwork etc...
You will work longer hours (typically it's easy to keep working, so run errands during the day to "get out")
The walls will start closing in (trust me on this) so keep an active social life...

Yea, about those lunch breaks... I've been bad lately... Definitely get out once in a while.
Haven't taken a "retreat" in a while though.
No pets for me... I'm on the phone all day, so...
now what are you doing???? I am going to guess computer work but I could be wrong.
I'm a Product Manager - I plan the strategy and development of computer products. I'll start work with them on an anti-fraud product that looks for fraudulent payments in online billpay - I make the world safer for people that use electronic currency!
It's nice because it's the same product that I worked on at my last job, so I will hit the ground with previous experience.

Are you on LinkedIn? All my applications basically went nowhere (most didn't even give me the courtesy of a "no thank you") and EVERY interview I got was via a direct recommendation, most from LinkedIn. Any published job opening right now gets so flooded with applicants that I think you basically get lost in the pile (felt like I did anyway...)
Good luck!!!

No I'm not LinkedIn and yeah I have gotten the same runaround, BS, no replies, etc. I don't even get feedback + or - from the couple of interviews that I have had.
