"Service Requirements" question

This is probably a dumb question, but here goes.....
I have a 2008 Mini Cooper S with 10,718 miles on it (purchased July 2008). I had the car in to MAG for "early annual oil service" on 6-25-09 when it had 9,151 miles on it. I'm kind of confused on when it should have it's next oil change. I know when I start the car each time, that the display shows remaining driving distance and next scheduled service. Well, since I got the oil change in June, this information has not changed. It reads 6,000 miles and a date of 5/2010. I would have thought the mileage number would start counting down from the service in June, but it hasn't. So, my question--when do I take the car in again for an oil change? Do I wait until May 2010? That seems like a really long time to go before changing the oil.....
Thanks!
Cindy

if your service indicator goes on, then you get the "full service"; however, for people that don't drive 20k miles a year or don't drive it hard, it might take 1 1/2 years to 2 years for it to indicate a service. You are allowed just an annual oil change (oil and filter only) annually.

your next oil change should be when the indicator goes on again (which you will get more than an oil change) or if you hit another annual marker. They don't reset that indicator after an annual oil change so that you come in when it does go off to do the other service items.

In summary, yes, you should go in May 2010. Yearly oil changes for these cars are normal.
