I just watched TV 10 news 6/11/09 5 pm - consumer alert about compact cars and how they are rated for bumpers and accidents. The Mini came in poor. I say, lets email 10TV and tell them we love our minis.
I love my Mini, but they are correct about cars doing poorly on the low speed impacts. This is partially because they use the same scale for all sized cars so there is no conceivable way a Mini or any car could compete with a truck or SUV that has metal bumpers.
Jan the media just like to tell stories, not to be confused with giving people useful information.

I thought the report was not about the safety rating but the repair costs. Which is funny because it was conducted by the IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety). Guess they do not want to pay for repairs on smaller cars. I say this is propaganda much like the recent test they did with a larger vehicle versus a smaller vehicle. They announced their findings like they just discovered physics applied to motor vehicles.
