Yesterday was a crazy day

So, the B.A.D. family were suppose to head out of town for a family function, but that quickly changed. We got up to the corner of E. Broad and Waggoner Rd. and were sitting at the red light waiting to turn on to Broad. There were two kids (around 12 or 13) waiting to cross Broad and one of them took off without waiting for the light to turn green, just as he made it across, his buddy takes off, jumps on his skateboard and rolls in front of a car going through the green light (speed limit is 50 mph). The car has no time to slow down and we watch as the kid gets thrown in the air like a rag doll, as the driver locks up her brakes and slides off the road on the other side of the intersection. The driver almost gets hit as she runs out in the road to help the kid, who gets up with blood everywhere and stumbles to the side of the road and collaspes.

It was the scariest thing that I have ever witnessed in person. I had to go back home because I was so freaked out. I haven't been able to find anything about this on any of the local news websites or in the paper and I really hope the kid is okay.

Really made me realize that no matter how careful of a driver you think you are, there are things that are totally out of your control. There is no way that this woman could have seen this kid because there were two lines of cars in the turn lanes to turn left on to Waggoner blocking her view of the intersection and she had the green light.

Wow! Hope the kid was OK. Its scary as a parent, since no matter how well you training your kid about traffic, with friends they're still capable of doing something stupid.

This is one area where having some autocross training under your belt helps prevent accidents since the driver would have known what the car would do if you stomped on the brakes at 50mph.

Glad to hear the BAD family is OK. While I was out and about on Saturday my friend and I saw three different accidents. It really opened our eyes to the fact that vehicles come together and you really need to be ready for anything.

I also wonder when I hear stories about kids and traffic, what can be done to make them realize the impact of their actions. I can remeber being a kid growing up in a town of 300 and a friend of mine was hit by a car, I can not imagine what it must be like to grow up in an urban area with 100 times the number of cars buzzing around.

Wow Brian, that sounds very scary. I'd guess that kid is OK or it would have been on the news. At least I sure hope he is.

Trouble is, kids don't think about consequences. IMO none of them do. When they get older they believe they are immortal. Sadly some learn that they are not the hard way. Teach your kids the best you can, give them all the love you can & then pray.

I've been checking the news as well and haven't seen anything, so I assume that he is fine. It was crazy to see, Missy commented that it was like a scene out of a movie. I felt terrible for the woman who was driving the car.

Wow... scary stuff. I hope the kid is OK. Likewise, I hope the driver makes it through this OK as well... something like that would make it VERY hard to get back behind the wheel...

I've had a kid run out in front of me as I rounded a corner on my way to work once and it wasn't that close, but scared the hell out of me...
