Photo thread...

I'm hope our benevolent moderator will make this a thread a sticky so it will stay on top. This would make it easy for folks to find & share photos...

OK I'll go first. Here are the pictures from Saturday's back road drive up into Amish land.

Enjoy!

Took this today... It's a re-make of this image, shot in 2006.

Heck Matt you shoulda cleaned the leaves off first.

Very nicely done! Personally I like the PH with the leaves best. Nice contrast.

Yeah, I had a collection of yellow leaves as well, but the red really just popped. Thanks, Chuck! (PS - I shot that on the CF card you gave me like 2 years ago at Nelson Ledges - it's my official MINI pics card).

Wish me luck - I managed to get in 6 pictures to the Calendar COntest before the deadline last night - they literally turned off the submissions link as I was uploading!

I posted this over on the classics forum, but this is our photo thread...

Fiona, taken downtown last week. The sun literally came out just long enough to shoot this - 3 minutes tops.

Nice shot. All you need is a little sun for a little car.

I'm afraid not, it's not a Walrus.

Are you having fun? Sounds like you are pining for some old silverbacks.

Great pics! Looks like fun and the trip to Waldo's...priceless! Nice pics of the classic and the fall "foilage" on the MINI--looks great!

I just had my first fried bologna sandwich a couple weeks ago. Little did I realize it's a 'classic'. And speaking of hot dogs (you were, right), I hear one of our long-time establishments has a franchise in Toledo (and other locations coming soon): http://www.johnnyslunch.com/ .

I took this shot the other day at Alum Creek Reservoir after mountain biking. I feel that it portrays the mild fall weather and I also like how the shadows darken the color of the car.

Nice image! I think the shadow areas can be lightened a bit, but that might just be me. If your camera can shoot in RAW mode, use it, then use your camera manufacturer's RAW software to tweak the brightness, just enough to reveal details in the shadow areas. RAW gives you much more latitude and control of things like this.

Also, here's a composition tip for next time: Get Low.

MINIs and Minis tend to look best (in my experience and totally in my opinion) when shot as low as possible - it exaggerates the already-aggressive "bulldog" stance. This applies to classic Mini images as well - the image of Fiona was taken with me literally lying on the street with the camera about 6 inches from the pavement. Also, remember to make small adjustments left and right, even after you think you've chosen the best possible viewing angle - I'm constantly amazed at how even moving less than a foot in any direction can markedly change the composition of the final shot, often revealing compositional "sweet spots" that I missed. Luckily, shooting digital means that you have the option to shoot thirty, fourty or even fifty images just to get one good one - I do that all the time.

Keep it up!

Also be careful of what is being reflected in your paint / chrome. I noticed in the Purple leaf picture I can see Matt in the chrome work. In Cooper's picture I can see the crappy area next to where your car is parked. Many times it is better to have the cool stuff reflected in the vehicle instead of behind it.

Allen, that is Matt's self portrait. Easily cloned out if ya want.

Speaking of cloning & such. Cooper, I took the liberty of doing just a bit of post processing on your picture. Hope you don't mind. I cloned out the trash & some power lines, cropped a bit off the left side of the frame & along the top. Plus I added a wee tiny bit of exposure to the shadows. I topped it off with a smidgen of sharpening.

Cooper as your image was it was a darned good one. Especially when you consider what type of camera you are using. You have a great eye & when you move up to a DSLR that affords you some more creative control you are going to be very good.

I was just looking at dates for the Auto Show.
