Hello friends and enthusiasts of the great MINI Cooper!
I don't know if anybody has seen or posted this picture of a fatal accident involving a Liquid Yellow MINI Cooper in Mexico City.
Apparently the driver lost control of the car at around 85 mph (137 kph) and crashed his MINI onto a telephone pole. Driver died at the scene of the accident.
btw, the reason the picture doesn't show up is that you can't reference pics on your hard drive. It has to be hosted on the web. See the post at the top of the test forum for an explanation.
It might be the same one and old news, but I was just mentioning it at the Mexico MINI enthusiasts forum to see if any body there had known the person that died at the accident. My condolecences to this person's family.
I believe that's the picture from a few months back, and while the accident happened near my house I didn't actually know the driver.
While the MINI enthusiast community is in general very close in Mexico, there are also a lot of rich 15-year-old brats who recieve MINIs for their birthdays without even knowing how to drive or having the responsibility required to be behind the wheel. This, combined with a lack of speed limits in Mexico results in many accidents like this one making mangled MINIs and drivers a pretty common sight on our streets.
From what I read in the paper about this picture, this was basically the case with this particular wreck...irresponsibility + speeding + alcohol.
Very sad, but all too common in my neck of the woods.

>>I hadn't heard about the accident. I don't think the driver was a member of the Club though.

>>Not to blame MINI/BMW, but some kids really take the "go-kart" marketing too seriously. It's a pity that a young life was lost this way...
