Shine up you MINI and join us for the first Rally of the year.
Time: 10:00 a.m. Sunday, July 16th
Place: Birchwood MINI
What you will need:a good map of Winnipeg, full tank of fuel, calculator, notebook and pen.
There will be coffee and donuts at Birchwood and we will all be meeting at a restaurant at the end of the rally. We will also have Karl, Birchwood's ace MINI mechanic, joining us on the rally.
I now know for sure I will be working that day. Plus I have another issue, my MINI and I went into a very deep ditch last weekend. The ditch was full of brush, and almost every piece of black plastic was ripped off the car. No body damage, but Poco will still be in the shop for another 2 weeks or so.
It was a very wild ride knocking down all that brush, and going through a 10 foot deep ditch, but the little guy is tough, and I walked away without a scratch.
It would take more than bonnet stripes to make a corrola a MINI
As to what happened to Poco and I. Motoring on fresh ungraded gravel, going about 60kph and the back end went out, the right front wheel went into a ridge of gravel and off we went into the ditch. Ditch was about 10 feet(3 meters) deep, very steep and full of brush.
Ripped off almost all the black trim, punched a hole in the rad, but no body damage. I should get him back in about 2 weeks.
Ok, since Poco got scuffed anyways, now is the perfect time to get all the black plastic color matched to the car. When one door closes, another one always opens ;)
Over four years plus, I can't say that I've ever seen anything wrong with Birchwood BMW/MINI Winnipeg...
My mailed invitation to the event arrived last Tuesday (but then I already knew about it from this forum). Maybe it's fairer to say that Canada Post sucks .
My wife will accompany me tomorrow, but I am more than willing to ride in the back seat some of the time as part of a team effort on this rally. Two navigators can only be an advantage on this thing...
We diligently went out today and bought not one but two Winnipeg street maps (one in booklet form, one big foldout one), a paperback "Oxford University Press Concise Candadian English Dictionary" and some goodies to bring along in the cooler.
Will we see you tomorrow? (Hint: look for a red Cooper, license DTL 568)
