R56 2 spoke steering wheel -> JCW wheel

Researching this conversion.
Looks like airbag is incompatible? Can't tell if horizontal spoke covers are same but there are different part numbers between 3 spoke sport wheel spoke covers and the 2 spoke covers. Both have same outrageous price listing of $170 for the pair. Bottom spoke cover is a more reasonable $9.00.

Anyone perform this mod yet?

2 spoke airbag is not interchangeable with the 3 spoke. you'll need the 3 spoke airbag for this conversion.... i cant find the thread but i know someone on this board had successfully switched over to a jcw from the 2 spoke

Thanks glnr13. Just to be clear are you speaking of the R50,53 2 spoke or the 2007 2nd generation R56 2 spoke? From what I can tell they're much different. But even so, it does lend credance to the idea that the MINI does change their airbag housing to suit the wheel and not the other way around.

For the R56, RealOEM shows different airbag part numbers for 2 and 3 spoke steering wheels.
2 spoke: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...70&hg=32&fg=35
3 spoke: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...72&hg=32&fg=35

By the way, the expensive spoke covers are probably with the multifunction buttons. Plain spoke covers should be much less.
