Question JCW Chrono Gauges

Hello All
I'm thinking or ordering the Chrono Gauges for my soon to be ordered JCW.

Has anyone ordered this option ? If so, how do you like it ? I have not found much feedback on the forum ! Also looking at the Cravenspeed gauges.

What say you ?

I test drove a JCW this week with this option. Three gauges-oil pressure, boost and a timer in left to right sequence, mounted on the top of the dash in front of the steering wheel. The units were measured in bar, not psi.The bezel covers were of a very glossy plastic, and I had a heck of a time reading the values due to the severe glare and reflections. To the point of making them worthless. Need to be mounted differently or have an anti-reflecting coating on the lens IMHO.

Personally, I'd prefer water temp, oil pressure, oil temperature, & ammeter gauge...forget the boost and stopwatch. Cars need to have real gauges that tell you what is happening with the engine! Boost would be alright I suppose as long as it's worthwhile & not just for looks!

I drove a car with these gages, it become a mandatory option that I DIDN'T WANT. They looked cheap, they were obtrusive and they were very hard to read. My own personal opinion of course.

I haven't seen the chrono pack in person but what you said would appear to match my take....the main problem I have with the MINI is the gauges are too small, or lack of gauges! The tach is too small and hard to read where it is located.

I wanted them as well but also wanted the HUD. You have a choice due to where they're located. Happily I chose the HUD .

I ve got them. Like them a lot. Especially boost & oil gauge. Digital clock in the stop watch is a nice feature. But the stop watch is a bit silly if you don't rallye.

I completely agree................

This is no sense for a so called performance car.

The other no sense is no fog lights on the JCW.

The latter is even a no go for me to consider a future JCW because I need them for daily driving.

Have them and like them particularly oil pressure as there is no dipstick. E-dipstick is useless. Stopwatch is helpful for rallying as stated earlier.

Oh let it go Dan! LOL! I think your new forum name should be "Dipstick Dan"! :-)

Cheers my friend,

John

You can determine a lot of issues by physically, visually checking your oil. A notable issue particularly germane to F56S owners, metal particles in the oil! Unless I am off the mark you cannot do this with an edipstick!

I'd get the HUD if I were you. Nobody I've seen has anything but good things to say about it either. Comments on the gauges have been meh.

Traded for the JCW I test drove. The gauge pack made a handy place to put my scan gauge that was on my previous Mini.
Best of both worlds! Now, headed to test the off-road capabilities of this rig as you can see, lol!

Aside from the fact that I don't have a hole in the top of my dash to plug this thing into, IMO it's way overpriced for the quality and looks of the pack. They'd probably be a little more useful if you had a choice between engine/water temp and stopwatch. Oil pressure, boost, and water temp would be useful. Stopwatch? Not so much. I'm making do with my ScanGauge II on a Cravenspeed mount. If you want a more traditional look, wait for Cravenspeed's OBD II 3rd Gen gauges to come out. I had a set (called nGauges at the time) on my R56 and loved them.

I may swap them out for the Cravenspeed if they are plug and play if I like them better. I am not a fan of the mini HUD as it is sort of cheesey looking. I much prefer the in window display on the vette and it has more features as well. It is right in the line of sight and very useful. I like the chrono pack OK, it works for my needs.

Oil pressure gauge looked more like a tach the way it was sweeping so far and back with the engine revs.

That's because you & I are both used to pressure in "PSI" not "Bars" :-) Seemed kinda weird to me as well.

Yes, it sort of freaked me out at first as well. I still am not quite used to it.

As in 1 "Bar" = ~17psi, or atmospheric pressure at sea level.
