My dealership has one and it's apparently set as non-sellable by MINI. I wonder if other dealerships received a similar JCW. One that is meant for demo, not for sale?

 

That's likely, because unlike Ford F150s about 2/3 of Minis are built and ordered not bought off the lot. That's their niche: lots of option, particularly interior options, wheel options, colors and stripes. So they have to have some to test drive. The JCW model doesn't sell a lot because it's more expensive. My car listed for $42,000, was built in July, 2013, and I bought it in April 2014. True, it's a Coupe, one of the Minis that sold only 1000 cars in the US in 2014 because it's a 2 seater. But not many will buy a JCW off the lot. We bought my wife a Mazda 3 in 2005. No interior options at all. No exterior options either except color. I asked the salesman if I could see some wheel options in a book. He looked at me like I was crazy!

 

I don't know if that's necessarily true. I think it's probably the other way around, actually. While many people love MINI for it's customization options and the ability to order a car exactly how they want, from what I've seen, most people either don't care enough to wait the 1-2 months to get one or simply can't wait and buy off the lot.

Not to mention dealers would much prefer to sell what they have on the lot over ordering a car.

 

You could always ask your salesperson: what's the percentage of ordered vs. off-the-lot sales?

 

Jon, I have even better news. I was at MCM tonight [driving the automatic JCW, *very nice*], and Matt looked up both our info. Both our cars are at Status 112. Mine is scheduled to start production on Sunday, and yours on Monday!

I'm not completely sure what "Tier 2" means unless it's emissions related, and I can only guess that the 1CA code is for USA market emissions compliance, and the 8S4 is something to the effect of the MINI Excitement Package that's optional in EU, or perhaps a JCW specific center console light ring.

 

I did not know that. Thank you, Ryan. I drove the auto JCW Tuesday and was impressed with the torque. The car is so different than my '04 JCW, but in good ways. Love the interior. I am so excited!!

Has anyone else gotten an allocation to build a JCW manual yet?

 

I received my production number a few days after I ordered in early May...still no FIRM production start date. I was told "probably mid-June".

 

Just got word production started TODAY, 5/28 on my Midnight Black JCW Hardtop 6MT.

Fascinating list you have there. Is that out of a German or BMW system? Your car is indeed built for the USA, correct?

I see the MINI order codes within there, but they're all bracketed with an "S" prefix and "A" suffix.
