want an engine

Hey everybody, need to buy an engine. I would like to go with a jcw engine with wiring harness and computer(dme) if anybody knows of one. I have an R53 with a blown engine with lots of mods. Don't wanna spend 5250 thru Way Motors for a reman, and dont have a lot of choices from salvaged cars. Let me know whats out there.

I have a W11 for sale, but it's up here in Canada ($5K CDN).

Way's prices are pretty much what you're going to see everywhere (keep an eye out to see if a core charge is also applied).

The labour and parts to replace the internals in a blown engine will end up costing that or more. If you have someone rebuild it, make sure they're an engine builder - not just a mechanic.

Dealer crate is $6K + installation

This is why lots of people part out their cars (and why R53's are a dying breed) when they pop an engine.

Get one from a junk-yard or from a parts car if you want cheap.

I went for a dealer installed crate with dealer JCW upgrade (for my mid '05) and got a 2 year warranty, and have the spare engine to throw into a car like yours when it comes my way (or sell to those who need it).

Couple questions for ya...
1. how did you blow your engine and at how many miles?
2. so, you replaced your engine at the dealer with a crate jcw engine and then proceeded to still have your blown engine fully rebuilt?
3. how long has this rebuilt engine been sittin for?

Thanks

1. The original engine (as we know now) consumed 1L/1000 kms without showing any signs and ran out of oil at 3000km from my last checking it (I've learned to check my oil much more often). Funny enough this was within Mini's 'spec'. The oil starvation caused the connecting rod bearing to fail. I had to replace the entire internals (except pistons).

2. Yes.

3. The rebuilt engine has been packed up and stored for 13 months now, but the warranty will start at the time sale or me installing it (which ever comes first). There will not be a problem with the engine.

There are a number of other members going through similar problems. I've posted my experiences on them as well if you look at my message history. I've become quite knowledgeable with my unfortunate (and freaking expensive) experiences.
