Did Mini make a JCW kit for a 2007 Cooper S? Not just the Aero Kit, Brakes, and cosmetic upgrades but performance upgrades? If Mini didn't is it possible to add the JCW performance upgrade after market? Next if the Mini has the JCW performance upgrades how could one tell?
I am looking a buying a used 2007 Mini Cooper S that is supposed to be a JCW version. It has all the cosmetic Works equipment, carbon fiber, scoop, interior, rear air dam, JCW brakes, Stabilizer bar, air filter, everything, but i can not tell if it the engine upgrade.
I still plan on buying it, but this info will help me negotiate a price.
The exhaust should have the JCW logo engraved in the tips, and the airbox should have the JCW logo. Also the boot and front grill (upper or lower) should have JCW Badges.
The one I am looking at claims to be a John Cooper Works version. It has the JCW exhaust, air-box, a logo on the back hatch. all the JCW interior and exterior cosmetic add-ons. This one LOOKS like a JCW, but is it a true JCW Mini? Just because it looks like a JCW Mini doesn't really mean it is one.
You can buy a Plain old Coopers S and put on the JCW, brakes, exhaust, strut brace, air-box, carbon fiber pieces, door sills, and slap a JCW badge on it but it still is not a JCW Mini. A true JCW Mini also has been tuned by the factory raising H.P from 175-210. I would like to know how I find out if the one I am looking at has the engine modifications?
The info I am looking for is did Mini offer a JCW Performance upgrade in 2007 i.e the motor upped to the JCW 210 H.P. I am not worried about whether it was installed at the factory or at the dealership.
If it is a stage 1 JCW car, it should have a serial number plate on the engine. You can check the serial number with any Mini dealer. Also, the car should come with a dvd with the tune parameters.
Hey thanks for all the info. I will not know the exact specs of the car until I get it. I bought it from a broker not a Mini dealer.
Either way what kind of mods can you do to the 2007 Mini Cooper S?
I am going to guess that the only performance upgrades on this Mini are the exhaust, air intake and brakes.
Also, if it's a tune kit (stage 1) car it should have a signed Certificate of Authenticity by Michael Cooper, along with the tune-parameter CD (which is unique to that car's VIN).

No. Only the tune kit only bumps it up to something like 189 hp, with no physical engine or drivetrain modifications like the factory car. Factory JCWs didnt start until summer 2008 (2009 my).
Nomenclature-wise, if you have a JCW tune kit with CD COA airbox and exhaust it is technically a MCS (or MCSa) JCW. Factory JCWs are just that, JCWs.
On the other hand, a MCS could be loaded with all kinds of JCW add-ons, brace, brakes, a/k, etc, but w/o the tune kit it is not a JCW. Only stage 1 and factory cars have the right to wear the exterior badges (which are also mounted in different places to distinguish the two.)
