Plugs, oil, filter ????

We have owned our Mini for almost a week. I am an old Chevy man and I will admit I do not know much about these cars. Can you lead me down the right path for a few of these questions. The car sat for some time, the first owner past away the wife traded it for a Honda.

We have a 2004 Mini S JCW with 40,000 miles, Manual
I would like to do an oil change, Plugs, air filter, maybe fuel filter, and wires.

What Spark plugs would you recommend ( not just brand but number)

What oil and filter

Is the fuel filter in the tank or in line?

The exhaust seems pretty loud for a 4banger, is that typical?

I have lots of questions but I will try to look most of them up. I know I need to get the JCW package number and learn more about it. I plan on going through the car this weekend and look for anything that needs replacement.

Plugs, oil, filter ????

Welcome to the Mini World!

Till you learn more about your car the best advice I could offer is:

From a Nam Vendor or a Mini Dealer near you buy
stock JCW plugs, Mini Branded oil and filter or an OEM equivalent.
Stick with factory wires as well.
Aftermarket for the air filter is fine.

Go here for an oil change how to:
http://www.lonestarminiclub.com/foru...read.php?t=411

The fuel filter is in the gas tank and has no pre-determined (mileage) change interval.
Go here for fuel filter how to: http://www.lonestarminiclub.com/foru...ead.php?p=4062

The reasons I say what I do are:

Some aftermarket plugs have been known to blow out of the head,
cheap oil filters have been known to self destruct,
and inexpensive wires corrode faster than stock.

The loudness of the exhaust, which is very subjective, is that it maybe aftermarket.
If it's the JCW exhaust, it would have come with the JCW Tuning Kit,
it is all stainless steel and the tips have the JCW logo on them.

Hope this helps...

Well stick with the JCW plugs they work great. We use them in our pullied cars.

As for Oil filters, go with OEM, I've had cars towed in that used aftermarket and caused leaks or didn't get oil pressure. A dollar or two more for OEM is cheap in the long run.

Yes the fuel filter is in the tank. Don't worry about it, you got a long time before you need to replace it.

Way gives good advice

You can also give Steve a call at Custom Mini Shop and he can set you up with eveything you need. 559-320-0004

For plugs I recomend BRISK DR12S and for a JCW air filter the one from Mini Madness or Mini Mania

I have had very good luck with Wix oil filters. If you look at them side by side, the Wix unit looks like it is better made than the stock.

Spent the weekend putting new rotor/pads, plugs, oil filter, air filter, and chasing down other minor issues. She is running great. Thanks for the advice.
