My dealer is stumped: JCW Cold Air Intake Gasket

The parts guy at my local dealer (Seattle MINI) is stumped. Can you guys help?

I recently put a new air filter from Mini Madness in my JCW R53. In the process of removing the air box cover, the foam gasket on the back of the box basically disintegrated in my hands. I've been trying to order a replacement from Seattle MINI for a week now, but they can't seem to figure out what I need.

Attached is a photo. Anyone know what part # I need?

My guess would be that this is one of those small parts that are not available individually. If it were me, I'd just get some foam weather stripping from Home Depot or the like and replace it that way

It's #7 on this diagram. Your dealer should have been able to look it up since they use the same reference.

I see that the list price is $41 for the gasket. Unless you really want the OEM gasket, I would go with the weatherstripping suggestion. If you go with weatherstripping, even better than foam would be rubber. You can get adhesive backed rubber weather stripping very cheap.

Thanks, everyone, for your help.

OXYBLUECOOP: Thanks for the RealOEM.com link. I tried using that site myself to find the part, but came up empty. Appreciate the leg-work!

DRILLSLINGER, QUIKMNI: I did indeed go the weatherstripping route, based on your suggestions. I stopped by Home Depot tonight and picked up some 1/2" x 3/4" foam tape. I affixed it not to the intake housing, but to the car, and pressed the housing against it as I fitted it to the car. Worked like a charm and almost looks stock (almost ).

Thanks again, everyone!

Roop, I would do the same thing as the OP.

Should be able to find the stuff in any hardware strore or a place which sells A/C and home heating supplies.

since i couldnt find 1/2" x 3/4" i doubled up the 1/4
and it worked great with some contact adhesive.
