Hi everyone,
I'm looking at trading in my 2004 Cooper (non S) for wayyyyy lower than I was hoping to get... for a 2006 Cooper JCW! It has about 31,500 miles on it with the sport package, moon roof, pepper white with black roof, and black leatherette interior. Also has the H/K stereo. I think that's everything... I've got the seller down to about 19.6K before closing costs. It's a very clean car.
What do you guys think? After paying off my existing loan and all closing costs my total price is somewhere around 18K.

I'm torn and am looking for some advice, HELP!!!
I bought a 2005 JWC and have not registered the car yet. I got it from a couple who are divorcing. I really don't care about European cars but the price is decent and took it. I like to buy the Subaru Impressa due to the 4 wheel drive. If you are interested I can send you a pictures.
Loaded the car is like new (Chilli RED).
If you're getting raped on the trade in value, don't be afraid on trying to sell it on your own. Find out what they're going for on the street (eBay and craigslist). If the street price is more than the trade-in offer + difference * sales tax + any cost of putting up for sale, then I would sell it on my own. Whatever you do, don't go upside down on a car from day 1. It's a good thing you're at least looking at a used car where they are already hit with the initial depreciation.
Yeah, I've been trying to do the selling it on my own thing but it's pretty tough selling a non-S Cooper these days. With so many good deals on Cooper S's out there people are looking at those (just like me). Thanks for the advice.
$19.6K seems about right for a JCW with those options and 31K miles. I just bought mine about a month ago for $1K less, but it has about 10K more miles than the one you are looking at.
I agree with xphiledan: sell your car privately if you're not happy with the trade-in price. You might be able to save yourself $1000 or more, depending on how much the dealer is trying to squeeze you.
