well at first i was thinking about selling or trading in my 06 Cooper S for a GP, but there are those days that i need the back seats
so i just convinced myself to get my cooper S as close to a GP as much as i can
as of now for performance i have: Alta V2 pulley/belt, short shifter, HR springs, 5zigen wheels, oneball exhaust
questions is as far as engine and suspension performance is concerned what would i need to change/upgrade from my S to make it at least somewhat comparable to a GP version?
Your already close with just the pulley, I'm assuming the Alta is a 15%? Get a cam and a tune and you will be past it in performance. Get some kind of under stut system and your handling will be fine also. Since you are in SoCal, I would give Mynes Performance a call and get yourself over there a set up a tune.
As Jiminni, noted an ECU tune is key. You might also need larger fuel injectors to go with the tune, especially if you go with a different cam.
On the engine side the GP is pretty much a JCW engine kit (see below) with a couple upgrades:
- Larger intercooler
- GP specific ECU tune
On the suspension side the GP is again pretty much a JCW suspension (JCW yellow stripe springs and matching shocks) with one upgrade:
- Aluminum rear trailing arms
On the brake side the GP uses the R53 JCW front brakes and different pads.
To reduce weight the GP does not have a sunroof, rear wiper, HID headlights, rear seats, or rear insulation. The GP also has aluminum trailing arms and relatively light 18" wheels.
The JCW engine kit includes:
- Match Ported Head (not a big deal)
- 380cc Fuel Injectors
- Air Intake
- 12% Pulley
- Colder Spark Plugs
- JCW ECU Tune
- JCW Cat-Back Exhaust

For those, you can just get some R56 trailing arms and lower fitment bushings. They'll run you about $300/arm, I think.
From what I understand it is a little difficult to obtain the GP aero kit panels from Mini unless you have a GP. The GP kit has the wing, front bumper, side skirts, rear bumper, and flat belly pan panels.
With the addition of the Wing, Mini also moved the Third Brake Light to a lower position on the GP.
One alternate option would be to go with the normal Mini Aero kit. It can be purchased from Mini or aftermarket vendors.

M7 makes a rear spoiler that is close to what the GP has.
i will def give that a look

Well it was not specifically called the JCW body kit.
The Aero Kit was a dealer installed option available for any Mini.
It included a front spoiler, black front grills (3 pieces), rear valance, and side skirts. I believe it was a $1200 option plus dealer paint and install.
Here is a link to the OEM kit from Mini Mania: http://new.minimania.com/web/Item/NMX2006/InvDetail.cfm

another thing, i just noticed that MYNES is in AZ, is there a SoCal shop that offers the same perf packages?
thanx!
Dang I'm sorry, I had thought Mynes updated their site. Yes they have relocated to SoCal. Lake Forest, which is next to Irvine. I actually called them today to see if you called Call them and talk to Mike, at (714) 240-8970 Tell him Jim sent you M7 I belive is near Chatsworth?

This is true, but I've seen it done. I'll try to find out who to talk to about getting it done. If I recall correctly, it really depends on the dealer. Some seem to be more stringent than others.
well, i'll be honest i tried acquiring the inner quarter panel plastic pieces(pricey!)... and my service advisor was completely cool about it, he said he'd contact one of his customers with a gp to see if he could use his vin number, he was cool about it but the service manager was the one person who **** blocked that transaction : ( i still dont quite get why, his dealership woulda made money on the parts! people now a days, such haters
ps a gp is over priced, or atleast was when it came out limited production... i know some people gonna hate, but seriously an s you can make into a gp performance easily, all it is, is "special" in my opinion... limited in one word, like a true ss impala from the 60's with numbers matching
I ordered bumper, lower apron and under tray and besides VIN dealer made me either bring in the GP in or take pictures of pothole damage, to place order. Radiator mounts did not require pics, its a normal MINI part. They even knew I had a GP before the pothole damage, cause I had brought it in to show them peeling paint on bumper, that they agreed to fix.
BTW: Also GP has LSD and basically zero options other than MFSW and heated seats. That means no sat nav, no rear speakers, auto air, etc.
Yo Jimini I thought they were in Lakewood??
