Hi guys,
wondering if I could get opinions on this...I'm looking to have dealer install JCW airbox on my 2006 MCS (all stock, no mods).
My question is, would I feel any difference in terms of power/acceleration/low end torque with the JCW airbox alone?
Or is it simply waste of money if there are no other mods? Thanks!
I have a JCW air-box on my 06. It went on before any mods. No I did not feel any difference. It sounded better, that is all. That is a lot of money for what you get.
I'm sure if you put the car on a dyno then you'd see maybe a horse or two. When combined with an exhaust & a pulley it is a very nice combination.
For what that intake costs you could pay for a 15% pulley install & really feel a difference.
I have one on my '06 with no engine mods at all. No difference in feel of the car. Didn't notice anything on mileage either.
That being said I put one on for a couple of reasons.
I got a great price on it. A vendor on NAM had several they had been using for testing and had purchase a few extras. This one was never opened and they just wanted to sell it and I got a very goo deal on it.
I was getting ready for some engine mods. I had been contemplating, at the time, of getting the JCW kit and went ahead and go the box. I have since decided against that since I do not feel the performance gain is worth the money. I am doing other mods which will not be that radical since the only thing that makes the JCW kit that way is the mildly ported head.
I am pretty much going to do what the kit involves but with the typical minor upgrades that one co do to improve it. Having an intake sets me up for going in this direction.
BTW, If you do decide to get the JCW intake, when it is time for a filter look at one of the replacements available out there verses buying the JCW one. WAY too expensive for a paper filter.
Thank you for the replies...regarding the flap that opens at 4500 RPM - is there any problems with jamming the flap in the "open" position?
Or would you still have to disconnect the vacuum line and what have you? Thanks!
Flapectomy depends on your driving habits. If you are on the gas all the time, do it. If you are driving your kids around and parking under trees and don't maintain your car much, then hold off.
