JCW Brakes

I have tried looking here using the search function and hae either missed the answer or it is not here. I have a 2006 CR MCS with the JCW package installed. I am wondering if the brake pads are the same or different than the regular 2006 MCS brake pads? And if they are different what do you use or recommend?

Thanks,
Lon

Is your JCW factory or stage 1?

If it is a factory JCW then yes the brake pads are different. They are the same as the the R56 standard brakes and there are many options available. What don't you like about the stock pads so we can recommend which direction to go.

It is a factory JCW I believe and I would not say that I do not like the pads currently installed. I was just wondering for reference info I am gathering for when they do need to be replaced. I like to do all the maintenance that I am able to do.
I do not track or race the car. Just everyday driving. I guess the only thing I might like to see is a little cleaner pad with good stopping power. But otherwise what I have now works good.

Thanks for the reply,
Lon

My preference for an upgrade for the street are Hawk HPS. Significantly lower dust and definitely more stopping power.

Cool, I will add them to my growing list. But they need to be ordered for the R56, correct? And is that the same for the rear or are they the regular R53 pads?

Thanks for help,
Lon

The R56 and the R53 JCW (factory brakes) are identical. I'd ask for the R53 JCW pads for the front and rear just to be clear.

Looks like the rear r53 brakes are the same as the stock r3.

Brake dust

I'm running EBC Red Stuff pads and they run amazingly clean. Even after a couple of weeks on my daily driver the rims are only slightly dusty. Even the clean up is a piece of cake, the dust hardly sticks to the rims. You can wipe the wheels clean with a dry cloth and they'll look great.

Your front brakes are RED , right?
With a John Cooper Works logo on them?

You are correct, while the rears are just silver. Nothing special going on there, I don't think.

Yes, they're the standard brakes used on the JCW GP

The JCW brake package does include different rear brake pads than the normal Cooper S ones but the rear calipers and disks are the same.
