2009 JCW vs 2006 Cooper S

I currently have a 2006 Cooper S which I love, although I've had it for 3 years and it's about time for a change.

I was looking at the 2009 JCW and wondering how much of a performance boost would it be over my 2006 Cooper S.

I know it's more HP, but wondering about the difference between my 06 supercharger and the 09 turbocharge.

Just trying to gauge how much extra 'oomph' I can expect from the 09 JCW over my 06 S, thanks.

See if you can go drive one! That's the best way to know for sure.

@ OP, you would be amazed at the great torque in the 09 JCW, both the R53 and R56 are powerful.

They are different in how they deliver the power. The 09 JCW will push you back up the RPM range to 6K.

Of course, I have an 07 MCSa, but drive a friends JCW on occasion.

My last MINI was an '06 S, but Hurricane Ike took it away from me last year. The car was replaced with an '09 JCW. I have been blown away by the performance with the JCW. The car is truly amazing in a straight line, and even more incredible when it comes time to shed off the speed. The brakes feel like they can stop a freight train. Despite the extra performance of the JCW, I can't help but feel that the S gave me slightly more thrills. That supercharger scream is something that gets your blood boiling like the turbo just can't match. In the end, I wish I still had my '06 but it would still have a JCW as its friend in the garage.

Hehe my feelings are identical. I had an 05 MCS with a few mods that was taken away from me and I miss the thing everyday. But the 09 JCW that I have now I couldn't live without it. I wish I had both....

As a former R53 2005 beautiful Jet Black owner, I can tell you that the JCW09 is more than enough power. This car can get pretty scary when you hit the floor. My former R53 had a decently tuned up engine full of nice goodies but it doesn't compare to the power I have on this ride. It feels very nice to drive and may I dare, less stiff when you don't need to feel every bit of the car rattling.
Go try one, you'll notice what we mean.

I am an absolute MINI-ac until someone decided that they wanted Maggie, my 06R53, more than me. Now, I'm MINI-less, devastated and don't know yet if I want to try and find another 06R53 or take the plunge on a factory JCW. Though I loved the scream of the supercharger and have added the pulley, STB and OCC, I was in the process of getting the R56 brakes for Maggie when all of this happened. Having looked at the configurator, I've got some questions for ya'll. I was wondering why the Sport Suspension and STB weren't default for a factory JCW? Is there any real difference between the MFSW and the JCW leather - leather/suede wrapped ones? Why are there three different rear spoilers (Default, JCW and the $359 Motoring Accessories one)? Are both windows on the 09 auto-up now? Finally, I'm guessing that the brakes, CAI, ECU, etc., are included in the base JCW package?

I appreciate ya'll's responses but, I've gotta say, even the prospect of a factory JCW doesn't compare to my first.

Cheers!!

I had a modified 2003 and just upgraded to an '09 MCS w/ Stage 1.

I would have to say that the jump from my modified r53 to a base r56 is noticeable, let alone a JCW.

To say the least, I am loving my new ride
