Self installed JCW kit

I purchased my 04 MCS in late 2008. Not wanting to leave well enough alone I decided it needed more power! I contacted my local dealer for pricing and availability on a JCW tuning kit. Good news! Two were in the states(13 in Europe). This was the 210 HP kit that included injectors and airbox. For $3800 it was mine.
I removed the old parts(the core program is cancelled, all of these I get to keep) and began installation. I found a few things very interesting. The intake ports on the JCW head are untouched. A friend of mine who runs a machine shop says very little can be gained by work on the intake of a forced induction engine, maybe this is why they only ported the exhaust. The ports in the intake manifold were about 1/4 inch shorter than the ones in the head so I enlarged the intake to match the head. Where the head was drilled in the exhaust port for the valve guides a significant raised edge was left(this was also on the stock head I removed), I removed all of the exhaust valves and cut away the extra metal. While the exhaust port had been machined the exhaust header was now smaller than the enlarged port. Once again I took out a grinder and removed about an 1/8 inch around the edge of the header flange to match up with the head. All of this takes a little time and I doubt has been done during dealer installation of the kits. I own a repair shop that services mostly European cars and we have the equipment to download software for BMW and MINI. The car runs great!! I hope someone finds this of interest.
