JCW steering wheel

I want to get the JCW 3-spoke steering wheel. I have a two spoke with controls in my R53 and my question is- what to do with cruise control? I dont really care about not having radio controls but I do need cruise. Has anyone tackled customizing the the steering wheel or relocating cruise buttons and wireing ect...

I assume you want the carbon inserts then? Otherwise you can take the silver 3-spoke controls, they will work with an extra wire readily available from the dealer. See here for a DIY and numbers

I have made the original JCW carbon inserts fit with the MFST controls but is is tricky and a lot of work:

How did you make the holes in the inserts?

I think it sounds more like a 2 spoke to 3 spoke conversion question.

If that's the case I think it's just a matter of ordering the parts and finding the matching plug, but I'd have to check RealOEM and confer with the Bentley manual before I'd say yes

good thread. I'm curious as to how you made the controls work on the cf spokes. I'm thinking of doing the same. Since I'm also going from 2 to the 3 spoke jcw. Either that or maybe it's possible to take the stock 2 spoke controls and attach them to the back of the jcw wheel ? I use my radio controls all the time and almost never use the cruise

I would suppose a paddle bit in a drill press would be the be method of drilling those holes. Prolly a pilot hole first with a small bit to get the center marked.....just guessing. Did you check out the DIY link Berthil posted?

There's more to it than just making the holes in the CF blends with a dremel.

The silver buttons are one with the silver blends, they have to be separated first. Here is a Google translation with pictures of my Dutch website of how I made the holes.

BTW, while I had them both in my had I measured, and the outside diameter is the same as the stock S wheel.

Aside from the stitching pattern, the only difference from stock wheel is that it is slightly thicker, and leather, rather than plastic.
