Finding JCWs w/o sunroof

Why is it so difficult to find any 2006 JCW's without sunroofs?! I've looked high and low, far and wide... no luck. Even while looking at MCS's, 9 times out of 10, they are equipped with a sunroof

My ideal find would be a low-mile '06 JCW CR/B with:
-JCW Engine Kit (must)
-JCW brakes, exhaust, suspension. (must)
-Aero Kit (must)
-Cold weather
-Convenience
-Sports package
-HK Sound (must)
-Anthracite Headliner (must)
-No Sunroof (must)

Other colors I would consider is a DS/B combo.

I've stumbled on many 06's with most of the above but they have that horrid sunroof

Like this one:

My 2006 JCW which is for sale does NOT have a sunroof.......everything from Premium Package EXCEPT the sunroof.

It doesn't have ALL of the features you are looking for, but it has a good many of them. Checkmate (includes full Sport Pkg), Cold Weather, factory JCW, two-tone leather, etc. Basically everything but Convenience, HK stereo, and anthr headliner.

You can always add the Aero Kit and a better (better than HK, anyway) stereo yourself

hmmm, not really a fan of black. I might consider it if it was SB/S but it would need to have more of the things I'm looking for to "make up" for it. You're also a little out of my range, good luck with the sale though!

All I want to know is why so many opt for a sunroof on their JCW's? Maybe I'll ask the owner of the one in my first post.

You better get mikescooper cause it took me a year to find an MCS without a sunroof, they are very rare you had to specify no sunroof. Another suggestions is to get an 04 MCS MC40 or an 06 GP, both models came with no sunroof option.

I am willing to wait for something I want, I don't want to settle for something I don't like or for second best. Last thing I want is to be stuck with something I don't want for another 4 years like I have with my current car. Lesson learned, the hard way.

I've considered a GP but honestly I think it is too stripped down. I'd like to have the HK and xenons. I test drove an 04 without xenons and my girlfriend has a MCSC with xenons, I have to have them. Afaik GP's don't have anthracite headliner either. There are two GPs for sale locally so I might have to take one out for better judgement.

To increase your odds of finding your car I'd consider just an 06 JCW CR/B or DS/B with the Cold weather, Convenience packages and NO SUNROOF (the rest is retrofitable):
-JCW Engine Kit (all JCW's come with this kit)
-JCW brakes (You can retrofit this, not included in JCW cars-optional)
-JCW suspension (You can retrofit this, not included in JCW cars-optional)
-Aero Kit (You can retrofit this)
-Sports package (All 05-06 JCW cars include sport)
-HK Sound (You can retrofit this)
-Anthracite Headliner (You can retrofit this)
-Cold weather
-Convenience
BTW GP come with black headliner, cruise control and heated seats and only MINI that comes with JCW brakes and supension from factory other than Canadian Competition Spec models. Only thing I wish I had is the HK sound system or even the rear speakers cause two 4.5 inch speaker don't cut it.

howsoonisnow1985, you are incorrect........

All 2006 factory JCW models including the GP come WITH the JCW brakes as part of the $6300 JCW option package from the factory. You get larger front rotors and stronger calipers along with the tuning kit, exhaust, etc.

The JCW suspension was a dealer-installed accessory on factory JCWs......or any MINI for that matter...............EXCEPT for the GP which came with the susp.

Let me better explain myself on GP it was not an option-you got suspension and brakes like it or not and on JCW it was an option. I did not mean literally a factory part more that they are options as opposed to standard.

I actually found a HB/S w/ Cold/Convenience/HK and it has navi and LSD... but it is non-JCW Maybe I can unleash the power of RMW on it and get over the aero kit? Apparently it has extended maintenance and vehicle warranties as well. This is my best option at the moment.
I also found a SB/S w/ Cold/Conv/HK but thats it.

I am aware of all the retrofittable parts, but I'd rather avoid having to go through the cost/job of retrofitting it all.

The biggest thing keeping me away from a GP is the lack of xenons. If it had xenons I'm 90% sure I would have went for a GP because I can get over the HK sound. I know of only one GP with retrofitted xenons and it didnt appear like an easy feat.

The longer it takes me to find the right one the more I lean to a compromise though.

The exact combination of specific features and not-features that you are seeking is going to be fairly rare - think in terms of maybe 25-50 cars made, at a wild guess.

What do you think are the chances of 25 owners who have that "perfect" set of options being remotely interested in selling it to you two years later? I'd guess slim to none.

So get real, and be prepared to either:

a) wait for a year or two to find the "perfect" car, at which point it will have more miles than you would like, or,

b) learn to live with something that's not precisely what you would have ordered if you had got your thing in gear 3 years ago, or,

c) plan to spend money to change stuff to what you want. An "Aero" (snicker) kit, for example, can be purchased new or used - all it takes is money.

Deal with it.

You have nice taste, as you just spec'd my car (minus the Aero kit). Unfortunately mine is not for sale. Funny thing was that many people tried to persuade me to get the sunroof for re-sale value. I politely declined and don't miss the sunroof one bit!

Good Luck

Check GP.net about xenon retrofit, might be cheap if ya take time and buy used on eBay and NAM. I switched to "real" 100 watt Hella bulbs (not 55 watt with lumens of 100 watt type of bulb) and they are better than my previous 04 MCS xenons. Don't know how much better the newer 05-06 xenons are though? RMW is good mods too, plan on doing head cams and retune. Whatever you choose stick to your guns on color and no sunroof though, also if you choose non JCW car LSD is a must. Later JCW cars all have LSD.

As do you! I believe I spec'd JCW Driver's JCW to a T too. I was hoping you were going to say yours was for sale. I wish more people were as polite as you are

I have seen the thread regarding the xenon retro on a GP (forget if it was on GPmini.net or mini2.com). AFAIK it was a major PITA with the leveling sensors and such.

funny, i ordered my 2006 cooper s with no sun roof, but with most other features, and i love it. I understand your desire to go without the sunroof. I had a sunroof on my last car, but don't miss it a bit now.

while mine is not JCW it has had Dinan kits installed and i love the increase in power and sound, plus they have a great warranty.

I would look for the right cooper s, one owner all records with low miles and choose a reputable tuner, just my 2 cents. good luck with your search!

PS, re-sale (as someone said in another post above) is the reason everyone gave me to add a sunroof to my car, but i just held out and am so happy i did. Again good luck!

Not sure if mine is out of your range as well, but I have most of the important things you have listed including the lack of a sun roof (can't stand them). Shoot me a pm if you are interested.

In America, I think many people consider a sunroof as standard equipment.

I don't want or like sunroofs but I compromised when I bought my used JCW car.

I looked a long time for the right used Mini Cooper S

You realize you can retrofit the JCW tuning kit to any S? I just did it added a RMW tune and am quite happy. I previously had the brakes put on too. Find an S without sunroof and then call Classic to order your kit.

It came standard in my current car, but 99% of the time I have the sun-shade pulled out and blocking the sun. I have test driven a few MINI's with the sunroof and it's nice, but judging by the amount of time I keep my current one closed... I will end up covering the MINI sunroof with vinyl to keep the sunlight out before it drives me nuts.

I've been looking for a few months now. Came so close with one, then someone else beat me to it and bought it for his 18-year-old.

Yes. I have somewhat changed what I am looking for...
Must:
-2006
-manual
-no sunroof
-low mileage,
-Convenience/Sport packages
-Harman-Kardon

Preferably with cloth seats

Big pluses:
-Cold Weather Package
-Navigation
-anthracite headliner
-limited slip differential
-aero kit
-JCW

I'm tossing around the idea of buying a non-JCW and giving it the aftermarket treatment down the road.

I've had the opportunity to buy GP's with similar mileage for less but I don't think I want a GP. Thanks anyway, good luck with the sale
